Well I haven't received a new knife in .... almost a month now. So of course the early symptoms of withdrawal are starting to set in. This has of course lead me to start searching for a fix :D

So many knives, so little money. However, one knife has caught my eye and I decided to come here and ask about it.

Caly 3 ZDP with CF.

I have never held a Caly, so I am only going on videos and forums. I love my Delica4, is the Caly 3 similar in ergos? Is the ZDP+CF worth the increase in price? Is there a new version of Caly coming down the pipe that I should wait for? Is it made in Golden?

Thanks for the input :)

IMO the VG10 is already an excellent steel and G10 is a great material for knife handles. Don't really see point in paying $50 more for slightly more premium materials. As for ergonomics it fits your hand like a glove. I don't think anyone who has handled the Caly 3/UKPK have disliked them. Not sure about the ZDP version but my Caly 3 is made in Japan.

Yes, get the Caly 3. It's the perfect knife to complement virtually any folder you might carry otherwise, and it looks good enough for dress occasions as well.
Whether you want the ZDP-189 blade steel or the carbon fiber scales, I recommend getting the high end version. It's already a classic and you will cherish it forever. No reason not to get the best version.
Regardless of whether you're sharpening ZDP-189 or 420, I also recommend getting a good diamond hone for big sharpening jobs (the Sharpmaker does well enough for touch-ups).

If you want something made in the U.S. that would be the UKPK. Almost identical, it's just non-locking and there's no upscale version.
(CF S90V UKPK, Ohhh that would be drool worthy).

I favor the G10 over the Carbon Fiber. I find the CF version to be too smooth and difficult to hang onto.
Just my $0.02.

I have the g10 and my friend has the CF. While the CF is pretty to look at it is too smooth for my liking as well.

I find the Caly 3 to be somewhat more ergonomic and prefer it over the Delica because it has a 50/50 choil. As for the CF/G-10 choice, I'm no fan of G-10 myself, for purely personal reasons, but must say that unless you have a strong preference for one handle material over the other, or use your knife enough where VG-10 requires sharpening more than once a day, the G-10/VG-10 version is a better value.

Thanks for the responses everyone, but unfortunately due to recent needed money expenditure, my knife pursuits must be put on hold for the time being :(

Oh well, one can always dream ;)

While we're discussing the Caly 3, can anyone tell me what the symbol is on the reverse side opposite to the Spyderco logo?

I love the smooth carbon fiber scales. The knife slides in and out of your pocket like butter. I'm saying I think if your pants were made out of paper towel, you could put it in and out of your pocket about 2000 times before you had any pocket shred syndrome.

Personally I rarely hang upside down so the smooth draw out of the pocket and re-clipping is a huge plus. I find the design of the handle gives plenty of grip so G-10 isn't a must for me on this knife.

I also really love the look of the laminated steel. It makes the blade much more interesting. So I guess the CF ZDP caly 3 is alot nicer to look at and friendlier to your pocket.

ZDP CF price increase is well worth it in my book.
