Questions about "Mammoth" Inlays

It is sad that it will no longer be offered, but on a selfish note I am kind of happy about it. I can get about 2 Sebenza's for what I pay for one bark ivory knife.

I do support your opinion. From a collectors point of view it might be nice to have one of these in my collection. But for the price of a large 21 with mammoth inlay and standard blade I could easy buy a Unique Graphic with damascus blade.

Again .... sad, I say. While I can't speak for CRK, if I had to make a guess ... it is probably just a business decision. Mammoth ivory is still out there to be had in quantity. Problem is ... price. It's going up. Knife scale size slabs can run from a mere $30 to $500 plus. I imagine it would be tough to guess what quality slabs would be available at any given time within CRK's profit margin. HOWEVER, it would certainly be nice if CRK would accept direct, special orders from customers and negotiate the final price based on the quality of the inlay. That said, I understand that CRK is in the production knife business, not the custom knife business.

It is a volatile market. I've noticed that the price of CRK bark ivory knives varies quite a bit. With the prices of the raw mammoth ivory changing from piece to piece, this makes sense.

I guess I need to contact CRK and inquire as to existing orders. Last year I ordered a matched set (Mnandi, Sm and Lg Sebenza's) in mammoth bark. In Feb Angela confirmed the order in still in que but it would be a few months as my request was for colored and textured ivory bark. I haven't heard anything since then and just assumed they were still working on it.

I'm relatively sure that they will satisfy your order. They just won't take any new orders.

Bad news since they are beautiful. Nice to know that my Bark Mammoth inlays CRK are growing up in value :-)
