Questions about MOD Dieter CQD MkII

Hello everybody,

I recently purchased a BM710 and I must say that I absolutely love it.

I am also in the market for a CQD MkII (the smaller version of the Dieter) and I have a couple of questions which I hope some of you could answer.

How does the plunge lock work on MOD knives and how does its strength compare with the Axis Lock?
Is the carbide glass breaker in the hilt of the CQD removable? I can see stabbing my self with it (accidentally of course).
There are 2 finishes available for the blade - bead blast grey and black. Which one is the most rust resistant and lasts the longest?

Thanks
Peter

Peter, for my recent review and pix of the CQDII, go here:

The plunge lock on the CQDII is very stout, especially when the secondary safety lock is engaged (see review for details).
The carbide window breaker is indeed removable OR reversible. Reversing it exposes a rounded end which is meant to be used for pressure point strikes. I simply leave the carbide glass breaker in place, and have never had it snag or stick me. For corrosion resistance, the black finish is the way to go. The CQDII is of excellent quality and has earned it's place as one of my 3 daily carries. I hope that this information helps you somewhat.

Hi Eric,

I read your review and it was excellent. I can't wait to get one of these babies but I just have a few questions first.
Why is the black finish better than the bead blast grey. Is it just a better coating or is it that bead blast finishes are prone to rust?
Does the blade come in a plain non-serrated edge?
How does the glass breaker tip come out - does it unscrew or do you pull it? I hope it's not easy to lose.

Thanks
Peter
