Pete's..., How is Pete's doing? Let me put it this way....
As CJ mentioned the shoppe followed our business trend of having a big Christmas, and a slow first of the year. But we're just getting started with promotions and a re-think of the rest of the web site. Our marketing manager (Gail) gave Designer's Choice an awesome 2-page spead in our customer/dealer catalog this year. And I (... I mean Pete) wasn't even aware of it until after it was printed. Sweet!
A couple of notes tho; we will definately be adding a fixed blade option, and some more materials for the existing Folding Hunter. The notchless blade is doable, but not on all available blade materials, at least not for a while.
Regarding 532's - even if we can't fit it in to this year's upgrade plan, it will be possible to order a nice 532 through the shoppe. We are in production with a BG42 series of BuckLocks right now, and our Materials department (John and the group), unsung heros in the PCKS movement, ordered additional runs of 532 components just for us. More ordering details will follow.
Speaking of unsung heroes, our accounts receivable supervisor (Lisa) has done a great job of accommodating ways to take orders that will give PCKS more flexibility with what we can do. This is difficult for me to admit because for many years accountants and engineers rival over who is the most nerdy. (we all know the truth about that tho)
BTW - I have to say something about my favorite hero of all. I wish everyone could meet our knife maker Dana Queen. Dana is a delightful person who was our very first choice for this job. Before the shoppe opened, we gave her several days to practice selecting materials, cutting and fitting those odd-shaped bone handles, flat sanding brittle Mother of Pearl, and finishing stubborn BG42 steel. Dana is off the clock and entirely on her own when making these knives. And, there are no process sheets to go by when you have over 4000 different combinations and permutations coming in over the wire. By the way, all of your nice words and pictures have certainly meant a lot to Dana.
Other than that there isn't much to say. The PCKS project threw us some curves in the beginning, but we think we know what we're doing now. And our customers are really taking advantage of the options available. There are certain materials that are very popular, but for the most part people are mixing and matching some interesting-looking knife ideas.
Stay tuned.
