Links to some of those videos were posted in a thread here a while back, I have seen some but not all, I'm not much of a you-tube person.

Anyway I am just wondering if there is more to that project then these videos? did that grow from another site? or just a youtube thing? Did it run it's course or do people still make those videos? etc & etc?

I have watched the videos on You Tube. Not too impressed. Couple of them, when going threw the collection, he was naming axes wrong, and for what purpose they were/are used for. Pretty much gave up after that.

Either your referring to me or one of the many others who have made video to the project.

If its me then I named my cruiser axe wrong?, my Michigan pattern double bit wrong? my GB axes wrong? My Collins double bit Michigan pattern wrong? my Norlund hatchet wrong? Pulaski pattern (also nicknamed a fire axe or grubber) wrong? Not calling you out but its easy to have an opinion on the forums. Not one person has seen fit to argue names with me about axes before. Seems pretty straight forward I think. Feel free to contact me personally via skype or something should you want to talk it over. Same name as here.

I started the project, but I am not the only one making videos for it. Many people have showed their collections off at this point, as well as used and or refinished old heads...you get the point. It is for anyone to make videos for. So go for it. I made a playlist for it on youtube. It has 58 videos in it at this point. Our own RG598 attached a few nice videos to it as well.

Be honest with you I dont remember what particular video it was, or who the presenter was. I think i remember a deck or patio and a small axe collection being gone thru. I didn't really pay attention. I can remember a couple axes not identified correctly, and then also their use was not correct as well. I took it as an honest mistake, people just didn't have the correct info, or perhaps thought they did. I didnt really take it as that huge of a deal, there is plenty of bad info on the internet. Perhaps I will look up a couple videos on the good ole YouTube and see if I can find it, though I don't know what good that will do overall. It is what it is.

Well I was on a deck, as was a couple other guys. However if I called my cruiser a cruiser and it was wrong then I am surprised. Its the only name I have for it. However I didn't say one way or the other on what it was used for nor any of the others. Only thing I mentioned on use was a pulaski, and I know it to be called by its name, as well as a fire axe or a grubber. Used in trail work and controlling forest fires.

Operator is strict on terminology :) He is a wealth of info on axes. I actually remember his first post on this forum.

OK SkogKniv, I found you on youtube I'll watch some more of them. I'm not the you tube type, I've never posted a video. I don't know how to tell if there are new ones being added, but if not maybe you could remind folks of it in another of your videos. I like seeing other guys collections whether this forum or elsewhere.

I watched about 10 or so videos. Overall ok stuff. The one you call a Jersey pattern is partly correct, it appears to be a Baltimore Jersey pattern from what I can see. Might be a Baltimore Kentucky pattern though I would need to look at it closer.

Liked the bacon and berries one with trying the new double bit. Would of liked to seen you get after it though to see what that double bit could do.

Just one guys 2 cents.

The Woodslasher I am sure is a Jersey. The lugs are pointed and not rounded. I usually associate baltimore pattern with round lugs. Could be wrong though, no expert here, never claim to be.

Finish the video and see the pics in it...heck hold on I will post the chips I got after laying into it...

Here you go

I like the video where the guy does the rust removing experiment using CLR. That seems real familar. LOLOLOLOL.

Good results. I have a MANN head that needs some tlc. Was considering just flap wheel sanding it down some and hafting it tomorrow. Not sure if I want to put all the energy to bringing her back 100%.

This is the TT Woodslasher 95% cleaned up. Once I haft it I will run in through some more grit and aggressive compound on the buffer.

Nicely done. Nothing I like to see more than old to new. I like it. Do you haft most of yours? I have been on mine, but being up in the +200 range now, it is too expensive, but something I enjoy. I have probably around 20 double bits I dont think I will haft, but maybe if this winter things get slow and I need to spend a Sunday, I will have something to do I guess.

I am hafting all my own now. I have some other threads in the subforum here on some I have done. I would like to think I will haft every head I get. I don't see me getting a collection as large as yours though, certainly don't have the room at the moment.

I saw your Norlund hatchet you had. I just got one as well. Little bugger. I dont like that head style overall, it seems too head heavy to me, not balance correctly. Of course it must be me, they seem very popular. I was thinking of doing a little comparison between it and a Fiskars X7 I just got in the mail to replace my old mans broken one (yes he broke one, straight in half). Think it might be interesting to see how old compares to new.

One thing on Operators test results. the length of time in the vinegar etc is much shorter in July sun then in his test results from a cooler season.

My experience with vinegar is that when cooler it takes 2 days, if especially tough a 3rd. but under the July sun one day does pretty good.

Also, I run several heads through one batch of vinegar. It takes longer when the vinegars is crusty on top. Also, I recommend that you not spill used vinegar on your driveway

I don't know much about axes and haven't used them much, but would like to learn more. I read a little here and on another forum, and I've watched some of the videos in "The Axe is Back" series.

I for one really appreciate that people are sharing their knowledge. I found the US Forest Service vids to be particularly interesting and helpful. I really enjoy seeing knowledgeable craftsmen use their tools. I feel like there are tons of little tips and tricks that you can get from watching an expert just doing the work... tips that might be lost otherwise.

I feel like BF is a great source of info on all kinds of topics. So, I would say if there are folks on this forum that are knowledgeable and willing, it would be great for them to contribute material to something like this. I know there are others out there who would be appreciative as well.
