Your comment about USPS not covering a knife sent in for warranty because it's not "broken" is total hogwash.

Insurance on a package works like this: you get insurance on a package. ANY package. If it gets lost, they give you the insured value. End of story. Doesn't matter where it's being sent, or why. All that matters is that the package did not arrive. It may take a while to recoup the funds, but it'll happen.

Don't worry about what you THINK a company will say when you send a knife in for warranty service. Write a brief, specific note describing what you'd like done, and send the sumbitch. Put the ball in their court and let them respond, and for cripe's sake stop fretting about rumors.

Send in your knife chicken man. Get it insured.

So all I need to do is send packages that self destruct somehow insured for thousands of dollars?

Hi guys, I've been lurking around here for about a year and finally have questions that I haven't seen asked:
1. Any locking mechanism on knives will wear out eventually. Frame locks, liner and compression locks wear out by the locking tab going to the right. How does the Axis lock wear out?(If the lock wears out by the bar moving forward then this leads to my second question)
2. If the lock bar keeps moving forward then would it be long for it to hit the washers?(right now it seems like it is less than a millimeter until it hits the washers on my mini grip) https://imgur.com/a/YRTigFC if you need more pics pleas tell me.
3.Are stronger/stiffer homemade omega springs gonna wear out the lock faster(the stock ones broke.)
Sorry for the long thread and thank you for those of you who read it. I recently acquired a pm2 and a mini grip and the hype was real:), the pm2 is so dropshutty. Anyhow, please reply if you have any answers to my question(s). Any help is appreciated!
Have a great day:thumbsup::)
You sound like a man who needs a Spyderco Manix 2.

I've been eyeing it for a while but decided to settle on a Para 2 the week before Thanksgiving because the Manix 2 is a little wide in the pocket. I'll give it a try at my local knife shop this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion:)

The stronger springs will not cause the lock to wear out sooner. Linerlocks, framelocks, and compression locks wear out because a tiny bit of metal is transfered from the lockbar lockface to the tang lockface when locking up. This is the little black mark you sometimes see on the tang and what causes lockstick. Even without lockstick sometimes some metal is transfered when the lockbar springs over. Lockbars that do not lockstick and do not leave a buildup on the tang lockface over time are unlikely to wear out in your life time.

The axis lock likely transfers extremely microscopic ammounts from the bar to the tang lock ramp but I have never seen any build up. This means virtually no metal is being worn away. I doubt your axis lock will wear out in your life time. As noted the component of the axis lock that wears out is the replaceable sorings.
Nothing an occasional drop of oil couldn't delay, Hell oil will ad at least another 100 thousand flicks to it.

I do prefer the PM2 as it is lighter and just a great knife, but the lock on the Manix is similar to the Axis in usage but uses a coil spring. I've had 3 Omega springs break, but I've not heard of the spring on the Manix 2 breaking. I think it will have a MUCH longer shelf life than Omega springs. All great knives though; I love the Grip too, and Benchmade has great warranty. You are making wise knife purchases!

Yeah, see I don't know about wise knife purchases. I'm 19 and already have the pm2, life is gonna be costly from here. I haven't heard any coil springs in the manix break but I've heard the cage that hold the tiny ball break before.. Thanks for the reply:thumbsup:

How would you prove something that is already destroyed?:D:eek:

Simple enough. Take a picture of it before it goes in the box. They're going to want proof that you actually owned an item and didn't just insure a magically self-destructing box full of air.

You send your knife in yet?

So this is what I'm gonna do:
1- go out to the jewelry store, and buy like 3 ounces of gold
2 Pack them into the usps box, then take a pic
3 Unpack the 2 ounces of gold, and put in explosives devices(1 ounce of gold will be the traces remain after the explosion to prove the story)
4 Send the package insured and wait for da money to come in!:D:D

Antdog, I sent the knife to the local post office this morning(insured), let see what BM say when they receive it:confused:.

Good plan with the golden packages. Lemme know how the hustle turns out.

***UPDATE***
Here is an update on the knife for anybody that cares:
I just got my benchmade 556 back from warranty:
-They replaced the springs, free of charge even though they saw my homemade springs in it( I didn't put me CC info so..)
-They sharpened the non serrated portion part of the blade
-They cleaned out the knife and the action is pretty smooth now
The knife also came back with a bunch of paperwork saying what parts they replaced.

Also, I bought a 555hg and the knife is insanely stiff, backing off the pivot screw would cause side to side play. By insanely stiff I mean that you have to use 2 hands to open the knife unless you want to hurt your thumb using the thumbhole. I've polished the blade tang and washers and tried breaking it in for the past week but the knife did not get smoother. Has anybody experience this before? Do I have to send this one in for warranty too?
Thanks

I love the Axis mechanism, but i have had two fail. One after a couple months-Contega, one after years. Benchmark has good customer service so I am not hating about this.

Glad your 556 is back and your happy with it and let me be the First to say (We told you so) Lol. I just picked up a BM Bugout and it was stiff also but after I strtipped and relubed it she deploys smooth as silk. When I had it apart I noticed the the washers had some foreign debris stuck to the grease, looked like plastic shavings to me. BTW Thanks for the update Bob

LOL:D, no problems. I was worrying to much about my mini grip 556, but the 555 might actually have problems, it is squeaky clean with daiwa reel oil but it's still stiff.
