Wondering about blade thickness (Spine). From the website the sword is 36" long with a 10" handle. That would make the blade about 25" long or so.

What is the Balance like compared to a full sized Japanise Katana?

What is the weight on average?

I have no doubt on the quality and toughness.

Thanks Bill.:D

I am looking for a cutting sword for training (Starting to train again). I have a real Katana, Paul Chen Bushido Katana, but I don't want to cut with it until I get my technique back.

Don't know about all the other katanas out there but the HI Everest katana is pretty nice. The one I have is the one pictured on the Andale shopping site. The regular one that is. Bura made this one so you know it is top quality. The blade is 1/4" thick max with some distal taper. The tip is thickened for strength and the whole blade has a small amount of taper from the center to the edge and the spine. Balance is just ahead of the "fuchi" of what resembles a blade collar. Very light and fast! This sword is definitely not in the masher class like the Tarwar of the Tibetan. I'm not trying to slight either design here just distinguish between the different styles. While this sword would make a resonably priced alternative to the pricier Paul Chens, Bugeis, etc,, I think you would be happy with the HI as both pratice and combat weapon. See the pictures that Uncle posted of Dr. Winborne awhile back for proof.

hoghead,

Thanks alot for the info.:D

My Paul Chen Bushido Katana is 40.5" long, 29" Blade, 11.5" handle, blade is 1/4" thick at the widest part, weighs 2.1 LBS.

So the HI Everest Katana isn't heavy, that's good. I don't need a masher, I have a Tarwar.:)

So at 36" long, with a 1/4" thick spine, 25" blade it is close, just 4" short for me though, ideal for me is 29" by Japanese specs, and the handle is about 1.5" short.

I think it would be too big of a change for me and I don't think I can deal with the handle being that short.
