questions about the Police model

I noticed that the latest version, the Police 3 with the G-10 handle, has a different blade from the stainless steel handled model. Why did Spyderco use different blades for these two Police models? Just on aesthetics alone, I like the blade on the stainless steel model.

What Police models had the same blade as the stainless steel one, but with CF or G-10 handle?

Older ones that are long discontinued and now command a high price, if you can find one.
In fact there's a Mint CF collector numbered one on the exchange, now and it's at 260.

As to why the blade was changed. They decided to make it slightly longer and give it a full flat grind. I like it myself, but I like the old one too. Variety is the spice of life, as they say!

Apart from the differences with the blade that Jill already pointed out, the new version has a groove in the handle plus a jimped choil that allows you to "choke" it. The thumb ramp is also jimped.
Also, the handle is tapped for ambidextrous tip-up and tip-down carry and there is a Boye dent on the lock bar.
Aside from any collector's value considerations, the new version is much better for EDC use.

I have been a big Military Fan since I started carrying one back in 2004, but when I got the Police 3, I thought if the Military went away then at least I have somthing to replace it. It is My second most favorite Spyderco design.

The Police has more subtle variations than any other Spyderco model out there. It also has the longest continuous production history, having been in production for twenty-five years now. The hollow saber grind has been used on both the carbon fiber models and the early G-10 models, as well as the coated and uncoated auluminum and the titanium model. People have been discovering that flat grind cuts better in thick and stiff materials, so demand for that style has been increasing. Likewise, people have been hollering for different clip positions than the traditional RH tip down of the standard Police. THe Police III is a response to that demand.

Perhaps to appeal to a different audience. Perhaps because of feedback from dealers/distributors when the concept version was shown. Not everyone likes swedge grinds. Some complain the tip on the regular Police is too fragile.
