Questions for those of you who carry more than one Traditional knife at a time

The mantra "use the best tool for the job" can often result with you carrying more than one knife.

My questions:

- What do knives do you you usually carry together and how do they complement each other? (different blade styles, patterns, fixed vs folder, etc)

- How do you carry them? Do you use a belt clip, sheath, or keep both in your pocket (same pocket, different pockets)?

I usually carry only one traditional knife: a stockman with (3) different types of blades. This knife rides in my right front pocket. I also carry a modern folder (or multi-tool) clipped to my pocket (or belt). Pocket space is at a premium and I get more "bang for my buck" carrying a multi-bladed knife rather than several traditional-style knives.

I usually carry a large slipjoint backed by a smaller one. The small one sees the most use (Opening envelopes, packages, misc duties) while the larger one is for food prep or when the small blade just won't do.

I carry the peanut in my watch pocket daily, then usually a bigger slip joint in my right front pocket. Really like carrying the peanut in the watch pocket because of just how easy it is to get to, even when I'm sitting down.

I always carry two traditional pocket knives. The primary knife is usually 3.5" to 4" carried alone in my right front pocket. The secondary knife is nearly always a Peanut in my watch pocket.

Usually it's something like this...

The Peanut opens letters and packages, the primary is my knife for larger tasks, food prep/meal, etc

The Peanut is people friendly also when in a place where someone might take notice if you deployed a bigger knife.

I often have a Swiss Army Knife (SAK) on me. This is carried in a horizontal sheath on my right hip.

Usually my pocketknife of the day goes in my right front pocket. It is usually augmented with a second smaller knife or small multitool that goes in my left front pocket. I don't like belt pouches or sheaths. Someitmes the small multitool will go on my leyring that is on a carabiner attached to the belt loop just over the left pocket and the keying gets stuck down in the pocket. Knife in right, second back up tool in left.

These are in carry rotation, and they get carried by themselves in right front pocket. The only other thing in right pocket is a loosely rolled up bandana to keep the knife fro falling out, and keep knife from shifting around.

I generally carry two, just because I want to. I carry the ones that suit my fancy at the time. I wear overalls 99% of the time now a days and they kind I wear have two small pockets that are perfectly sized for slipjoints. For a few months, I've been carrying a Tidioute 54 Moose and a Northfield 26 Watchpocket Sunfish.

I really don't need to carry more than one knife. The only reason I do is because I am a knife hobbyist/collector and just like them.

I have a Vic Cadet for the various tools. Loose in right front pocket along with phone.

Then I'll carry whatever I want for the heck of it, usually in my left rear or right rear pocket, under or beside the wallet and notepad that normally occupy those pockets. Today it's a Case Peanut. It varies as to day of week and mood.

The Vic Cadet is capable of most of my daily needs. I don't really think of blade variety when picking the other knife, though I do tend to lean towards something with a clip point blade on it for the pointy end. Not always - I sometimes carry a Case Sod Buster Jr which has less of a point than the Vic's camper blade.

beljs3 Great! Thanks for the pic too. How do you carry them? Both in your pocket?

I carry the smaller one (GEC #25) in my pocket daily and the larger one in my watch pocket typically. I tend to swap out the larger one depending on how I'm feeling day to day.

I typically carry 3 knives, always a GEC #42 in a KSF pocket sheath clipped inside left front pocket, a large multi-blade (stockman or Moose) in left front pocket and a #77 (barlow, Washington or Forum knife) in watch pocket. Here is this week's selections, the #64 was new this week and booted my #81. I sure wish KSF would get some more of these sheaths in stock, the are excellent quality!

Thanks for the great pics and thoughts guys. I appreciate it.

ms3902 I like your pair. That's a good selection. You're right, the peanut is a good size for the 5th jean pocket. +1

jackknife Love that keychain sheath!

belljs3 Awesome. Thanks!

arizonaranchman Can't beat the vic! Great selection.

Woodrow F Cal Any reason for clip vs another blade style?

blademan 13 That KSF pocket sheath looks great. I'd love to try something like that out one day. How bulky is it?

When I do carry two traditionals at the same time, which is rare, it's because I added an SAK to my normal jack or stockman. I'm more likely to add a larger modern OHO if I'm gonna carry two. But then I rarely carry single blade knives, so even with only one knife I have two or three blade choices.

I'm in the daily carry 2 trads camp and make an effort to mix it up. Sometimes I carry 3 knives but when I do the 3rd is typically a small fixed blade or modern folder. Today I'm carrying a Northwoods Indian River Jack in a KSF pocket sleeve and a Case Peanut. I have a fixed blade (Fallkniven F1 3G) and a Great Eastern 71 Bullnose in my bag and I rotate my bag knives frequently too.

Nice questions

I pretty much always have a modern folder and a traditional on me (both clipped to, or in a sleeve in, my right front pocket). The modern varies less than the traditional as I simply have more of the latter - I enjoy their character and the "people friendly" style they exude. As such, should the need arise, I typically use the traditional in public, while the modern is used more at home (and a nice option to have in more of an "emergency" situation - however you define that). My preference for the traditional is to have a two-bladed model that includes a sheepfoot - it's just a great everyday task kind of blade shape. Nevertheless, as a previous poster has said/inferred - it's a hobby, so "logic" doesn't always play that grand a role in what I choose to leave the house with; I definitely tend to leave with more of what I want to carry, rather than what I feel I might need to carry.

To buck your trend here, I very rarely carry more than one. The occasions I do are when I know I have a particular job that requires extra tools.

Generally I like to have one pocket knife with more than one blade. Two blades of different shapes is the norm for me although I like to mix it up from time to time with perhaps say, a four bladed congress :)
