Questions on AK bowies

Just for the record, another guy whose handle I can't remember designed the AK Bowie, but dropped off the forum about the time they finally came in. His name may be in the FAQ's.

Yvsa just started showing up around that time. Yvsa's contributions have been the YCS and the Cherokee Rose.

I just checked the FAQ's and the original specs and drawing were the other guy's but the kamis didn't get it. See the full length handle scale version that the kamis sent.

That's where Yvsa came in, and made a wooden copy to send over. This was when the place was over on knifeforums and their archives are no longer available.

( But mythic stories come up when some older more decrepit forumites have imbibed a little too much hinting there may have been a copy made and that it wouldn't take Indiana Jones to find them. Then again you can hear most anything here if you stick around long enough. )

It's not a big seller but those who get it swear by it.

Swear *AT* them! I just *HAD* to tell that (if not lame) joke!

Little Bro I can't believe you've forgotten about Cobalt who not only came up with the concept of the AK Bowie, but also the first design.
I really miss Cobalt!!!!
Cobalt brought his special kind of humor to the forum. I was sorry to see Cobalt drop off the face of the earth so to speak.:(

The very first AK Bowies definitely had relations to the khuk the best I recall.
And also if I recall correctly the blade was dropped a little similar to a khuk and the point was realy rounded.
They were sorta cute little knives I thought, but the kamis didn't "get it" as you said.
The first ones didn't look like the original drawing at all.

The wood model that I made that we sent over the kamis got within 95% and this time the changes they made were an improvement over the model.
They dropped the handle making the knife more comfortable to hold, the most major change.
All the rest were minor changes, but still contributed to a better handling knife IMO.
The only thing that left something to be desired on the very first one I have was the handle was almost square.
A little work with a horseshoe rasp, then smoother files and then sandpaper fixed that up A-OK.:)
The only thing left to be desired IMO is that the kamis hardened the blade as they would a khuk, maybe not a bad thing in the long run, but I would have prefered the point to be as hard as the rest of the blade.
