Hi everybody im really new to the knife making thing and have found a few websites that offer blade blanks. I was wondering where you guys get your blanks(if you dont make them yourselves) and if anybody has any tips on using antler for handles. I have a lot of shed antlers that i would like to turn into knife handles. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tony

Texas knifemakers supply, Kovalls, Jantz, Sheffield knifemakers supply, Tru grit, and others all sell blanks. Most sell all the same blanks. Knifekits.com has some that they have made specifically for them. I have seen these in person and they are pretty nice quality. the quality on some of the blanks sold can be hit or miss. But you know how it is, You get what you pay for. You shouldn't expect a masterpiece for $11

Someone mentioned the Fallkniven blades. Back before I was making my own blades I got one of those when they first came out. I paid handsomely for it but it is a hard working knife.

Many start with blanks but eventually move on to making the blade fr barstock and some even smelt their own steel.. It just depends on how involved you want to get. I make all my blades from steel stock in the forge. I will start with bar stock either rectangular, square, round or any other shape of steel. Then I shape it in the forge. Also make my own Damascus. It too can be purchased if you want. That is what is so great about this craft get in as deep as you want.
