I just got a Buck 532 from the for sale forum here, and i'm looking for more information about this model. Its a very nice knife, a little bigger than I was expecting but probably about the perfect size for me.

Since purchasing it, i've been searching around the forums here, and on knife retailer sites and on the bay, and I see very few of these knives around. Most are high dollar custom models. All of the posts I see about them are several years old, but most seem to really like them.

So I guess what I want to find out is are there a lot of these out there, and no-one wants to sell the ones they have, or are they just pretty rare.

The one I just got has a BG42 blade (probably the main reason I got it), nickel silver bolster, and green diamondwood scales.

Thanks for the information,

schiesz

Whew... :p

OK! DarrylS has a large & impressive collection of 532's...or did you buy his???

Thanks for the welcome chickentrax, i've been lurking around here for a few weeks and seen your boilerplate many times before ;)

It is very nice to see all of the activity here and the participation by Chuck Buck and Joe Houser, it really lends this forum a lot of credibility and makes the company look like it really cares for its customers.

I bought the 532 from sleyer. I'll post some pictures soon, it really is nice.

...LOL...My "collection" is meager at best...Quite a few "true collectors" do have impressive collections though. I tend to use mine more than "collect" them. That is a really nice knife schiesz...I was about to snag that one myself until the wife saw the current CC statement...  ...You don't find 532's just layin' around the stores too often....nor are they for sale every day here, but there are enough around to keep them reasonable and easier to find than a heavily sought after vintage 110 or micarta 112. The BG-42 sets your's apart from the rest of the 532's usually seen as it's one of the premium steels that Buck used. It sounds like your's may be a MS series over-run. People do seem to hang on to their 532's though. It appears that it's one of those knives that you either truly go NUTS for ( like I do ) or you can take 'em or leave 'em ( like a lot of folks do as well ) ...I love their feel in my hand and their use as EDC's is about perfect for me. You got a fine knife there...Congrats...

Sorry, I guess I was thinking of CJ.

I've had buck knives since I was in boy scouts 20 years ago, and I was just very supprised to see participation in the forums from multiple people from Buck. I am active in a few other forums for other things, and you rarely see people from large companies show up, let alone actively answer questions and assist people.

It really makes me proud to own products from a company that cares about their customers. I always liked their products, but it means a lot more to me that they do care.

My picture taking skills aren't as good as sleyer's in the sale thread, but here they are:

The file work is simple but nice, and I love the BG42 blade. My first BG42 is a 881 and is a great knife.

...I don't know if you're gonna hide it away or use this one schiesz...but if you use it you already know that BG-42 cuts like a lazer and holds an edge great. I use my BG-42 532 almost daily and I have for a long time...I've never had to "sharpen" it yet...I strop it about once a month and it's back to hair-splitting sharp...

It is really amazing how this thing cuts. My 881 in BG42 was not quite what I really wanted... I always wanted to try out BG42 and I always wanted to try a tanto, I just didn't take into consideration what it does to your cutting ability when the blade is practically 1/4" thick! Of course, I think I could pry up manhole covers with that blade if I wanted to, i've never seen anything quite so overbuilt.

I have other blades that are this sharp, and cut this well, but that is after a decent amount of work on the sharpmaker. And starting with a decent steel like AUS8 or 154CM.

All I have cut with this 532 today is a kids toy box (Elmo knows my Name) and opened a few letters, but i'm impressed. This will make the nice EDC that my 881 is not.

532 is my favorite Buck, with the 110 coming in a very close second.

Mine also has the BG-42 steel. It is in my EDC. I love this knive. Sharp as heck and holds its edge. I am not very good at sharpening, so have already sent it in once to Buck to have them sharpen it.

congrats on a good purchase.

Your 532 looks nice. The problem with this forum is that I keep seeing new Bucks that I must have. Meanwhile the wife thinks that one knife for each day of the month is like 30 too many :(

My 532 just got a very nice modification. Forum member STR installed a thumb stud for me. Its placed perfectly and makes this nice little knife perfect for me. I'd gotten way too spoiled by my previous one handed openers to go without it on this one.

Thanks STR.

Well, i've been using it all day. Buck should really consider putting a thumbstud on the 532...

I'm glad you like it. The only thing I noted that I didn't like about it was the sharp little point at the very end of the cutting edge that can bite your index if you choke up on the handle and use what I thought was designed as a choil. Had it been mine I'd have taken that down to where it was not sharp but being that its not and you didn't ask to have me do it I wasn't about to touch it. I meant to bring that up with you before shipping but totally spaced it.

I think its one of the finest Buck knives I've handled to date though even with that sharp point. It is so easy to open with the stud its going to pass as if it came that way.

Thanks for letting me see one because now I'm hoping to get one for myself.
