I'm finishing up a green/black canvas micarta handle for a knife and it seems to have a lot of white/gray streaks in it (I assume this is the canvas) and the colors are really dull. I've sanded down to about 220 grit and was curious if there is any trick to make the colors more deep/rich like a a rub in or something, I tried washing it good but alas that only worked while it was wet

Thanks in advance

Washing the handle will accentuate the gray. Oils from any source will make the grays go away and deepen the colors, but washing them away will return the Micarta to original condition. You can check my website under Custom Kit Knives and see what my Micarta's look like. There are a ton of pictures. Probably the best was the Cetan one in terms of color of the handle. I finished all of them to 400 or 600 grit, then wash the dust out really well. The Cetan was the only one I buffed, using red Dremel buffing compound, and it is incidentally the only handle I have that doesn't have that white-gray streakinmg in it. Maybe buffing is they key?
