Questions on micarta I just picked up

I recently bought some micarta from an ebay vendor. The micarta is 2.5 in wide and it came in 48 in long sections I cut a piece to see what the inside looked like. The outside is a dark brown color I made a test cut and the core was a real light tan to almost faded yellow color.

The vendor said it was old micarta but that was about it. Is this stuff safe to work with? I heard somewhere a while back that some of the early micart had asbestos in it. Does this stuff have it? Just wondering. Any feedback would be really helpful. Thanks

Short answer, probably not, but treat it like it does and you'll be fine.

I'm digging that old micarta there. :thumbup: I just went on the bay and got a few bars of it myself.

Thanks sounds good I picked up a few more too. I will post some picks when I use it on a small skinner I'm working on.
