Questions Re: internet transactions for buying/selling knives

This, like many other internet topics involve dealing with the unknown. I prefer the simultaneous dispatch method. Everyone always seems to facus on whether or not the money is any good and whether or not the money will be forthcoming. There are many horror stories about whether or not the knife arrived and what condition it was in when it got there.

It's always good to check people out before you deal with them and when dealing with someone who does not have a track record to refer to it is normal for their to be anxiety. I have always thought that a service that acted as a clearing house would be beneficial but costly when you figue in all the extra shipping costs, even aside from any fee the service would charge.

The guy sending the money is, however, at just as much risk as they guy sending the knife, so why not simultaneous. Fortunately, I have had nothing but good dealings around the boards but I do read of others' problems.

As to the B&M model that was mentioned above by my respected Busse-aholic DM, I point out that with a B&M store you can see that there is a real live business, presumably (but not always) with real live product ready to ship. When so guy that is unheard of says he has a SH/SH for example and tells you to send him $500, do you really know if the knife exists? If I have any doubts, I sometimes ask to exchange phone numbers and actually speak witht he other side. Something about a human's voice that is more reassuring than words on the monitor - maybe I'm just old fashioned that way.

As an aside, I always remember the one idiot who got his panties all twisted up in a knot because I sent him a Bank Draft instead of a Postal Money Order. Keep in mind I was sending the money first on that deal. It was, after all, like an $80 deal! There really are all types around here, but thankfully most are decent folk not looking to take advantage of anyone.

Personally I can't get on board with that one. It's widely accepted that both have just as much to lose, however for me personally (please realize this is just my opinion) the person who is letting go of legal tender always has more to lose. Granted when he sends $100 for a knife, which he has obviously decided has a value for $100 it would seem like equal potential losses. I love my knives, but cash will always hold a much higher value for me :)

Now on the flip side of that transaction, yes the person who is sending the knife has already invested his $100 by way of the original purchase (assuming he is the original owner)...but unfortunately a knife isn't legal tender.

I would be able to take my $100 and purchase an airline ticket, the other gentleman would probably not get $100 worth of travel if he tried to purchase the tickets with the knife. Hmmm, I know where y'all are going to go with this one, improper comparison sorry :)

Just my thoughts..... :D

DM, I hate when people quote my posts before I have a chance to fix the typos and spelling errors.:(

Please beware of anyone wanting a Western Union Transfer. The Western Union transfers require ID to Pick up but are EXPENSIVE. A 200 transfer will cost you $22. Better to send Paypal and add the extra 3% that it will cost the seller.
