Questions regarding grinding slip joint blades

That sound to fancy for me. I run 3 step pulleys :)
Gotcha! Well I think where I'm messing up with using my jig is using it in conjunction with my wheel. I'm green I know! Anyway, I'm going to now focus my time grinding with the jig and flat platen so I can at least move forward after the HT process and actuall finish a passable knife. I'll continue to practice with my wheel freehand also and switch to that when I feel more confident on it.

Learning to grind is hard. When I 1st started I flat ground everything for the 1st 3 years because I had heard how hard hollow grinding was. Then client ordered a hollow ground knife, as I started I realised this isn't all that hard but I already learned how to grind.
I still scrap a blade here and there.
Just practice a lot, that's how you get better.

Slipjoint seeming simplicity got me started in knifemaking. Inherited a Joe Kious knife. Looked simple. Worth a lot. Said "I could do that!"

That was about 17 years ago. Just now getting around to producing decent slipjoints!

This is my cleanest practice blade yet. The plunge got away from me on one side, I slipped once with the 80 grit and that happened. My swedge grind could stand to be a little better toward the tip but all in all I'm pretty happy with this one. This was done on my flat platen with my DD workrest jig. 80, 120 then 220 grit. I'm cooking up some A2 today so a couple more attempts with a hardened blade coming up. Keeping my fingers crossed!
