Hi Folks,

I am considering purchasing Coote 2x72x10 grinder with 9" disc attachments (with a reversible 1 or 1.5 HP 1725 rpm motor using pulleys for speed reduction), and was hoping to get some feedback on the following:

1) How good is tracking - both forward and reverse?
2) Contact wheel access - does the grinder need to be mounted on the very edge of the workbench to get adequate access to wheel and disk?
3) Is the disc well secured for working in reverse? I saw an old review claiming that disk would fall off working in reverse.
4) Anyone uses a small wheel attachment? Is it a worthwhile add-on?
5) Can the whole setup be mounted on a wheeled cart? I have very little room in my garage was hoping not to bolt the workbench to the floor.

Any feedback is much appreciated. I'll call the company to ask the same questions, but the forums are really great to get user's view.

Thanks,
Matt

I have one I'm not using so I'll try to answer your questions the best I can.

1) Tracking is fine forward. I haven't run mine in reverse. Adjusting the belt tension can help.
2) Yes. You get better access to the wheel and disc.
3) I don't know. It's secure going forward though.
4) Yes. I'd consider it necessary to profile and contour handles.
5) Yes. Just make sure the weight is where it needs to be because to access the wheel and small wheel attachment the upright section moves. Not a problem with the large contact wheel but may be an issue if you put some force on the small wheel though I never had any issued because the motor provided the counterbalance.

I purchased a 2 x 72" with an 8" wheel from Norman back in 1997 and I still use it and my other machines almost daily. About five years ago I mounted my Coote on a hand dolly from Harbor Fright to make it portable and it works like a charm for knife making demos and sharpening work!

You do want a good solid bast and the heavy multi layered plywood base that Norman ships them with, works Great! It's solid and dampens vibration.

Norman hadn't come out with that disk or the small wheel but I'm sure he would work with you if yhey didn't work like he advertised.

My unhumble opinion is to get the Coote with the attachments you want. Keep the base that he ships it in too!:)
