Heres a plain hawk with a head forged from Wrought Iron with a 1095fg welded bit. Wanted to try this batch of wrought. Its some real "dirty" wrought, thats for sure
The next wrought heads will be a bit different. More along our usual lines. This wrought has so much silica and phosepherus in it you have to be super careful when forging. It has to be near white hot for every lick or it will bust wide open. Then you have weld it up again. That makes it hard welding a bit in because the high carbon wants to burn up at those temps. I have found that hinding the whole bit between the wrought helps insulate the steel. I think Ill weld the next one a few times to refine the grain a bit. Should make some nice pipe hawks.
