I posted in another thread that I'm resolving to not buy any knives in 2017. That leaves me with a little less than 12 hours to buy something before the clock strikes 2017!

I've got a couple knives in mind but I'm not going to mention those because I want other suggestions. I want to keep the purchase under $75 but I'll go a little higher if something really strikes my fancy.

As far as patterns go, the sky's the limit. Big, small, single or multi blade. Carbon or stainless suggestions welcome. Doesn't matter as long as it's a traditional knife but it has to be something readily available because of the time restraint. Just one knife, not multiple knives adding up to $75.

I might go with one of the knives that I'm already considering but maybe someone will suggest something that I hadn't thought of.

Any suggestions to help me end 2016 with a bang?

Thanks and Happy New Year to all!

I suggest a Böker, any of the beer barrel series are under 75$, NS bolsters and shield, C75 carbon steel and well made.

Have I ever mentioned my love of the humble Buck 303 Cadet? Have you ever noticed that the blades are rather " as ground"? Just sayin...

Svord Peasant or a Mora. Use what's left over for a couple pizzas for you and the Mrs.
Or you could add $30 or so and get that boxed set of Opinel from smallest to largest in carbon or stainless.

Rail, I don't know what your collection includes already, but I've been looking at the queen railsplitter (which also fits your name) in carved amber bone and d2. One of the commons venders has then for 73$. I've resisted that temptation for awhile now!

And KSF has some large queen stockmans for 73$. I'd have grabbed one of I didn't have a cattle king from CS already. They alao got some railsplitters in neato stag but that drives the price up.

Can you tell I currently have a thing for stockman/cattle patterns at the moment? Lol

Two blade half whittler from Schatt and Morgan, longpull sheepsfoot master and short clip blade opposite, on a strong single spring, D2 steel, oal length 3.5". 3 (?) cover choices, limited runs of 30 apiece, the S&M #48. Just off the top of my head. :D Might think of something else. ;) Oh, a really nice lambsfoot?
Thanks, Neal

Since I'd hate to risk a valued forum member's interest tapering off along with his spending, I have carefully thought about it and come up with the following recommendations :D

(1) The fish knife from the ugly knives topic. You probably won't want to keep it so you'll have to buy something in 2017 to fill the spot in your storage space.
(2) Giant Opinel No 13. I haven't seen your storage space but I'm guessing it won't fit. So you'll still need to buy something else to fill that spot in 2017.

;)

Good luck, Rick! :)

I second this choice LOL.

OR

Check around quick for a nice older Case Senator if you don't have one yet. I know you like the multi-blades on the larger side but you always have room for a nice little office knife.

I really love my new #47 Hayn Helper in OD Micarta. I think it was $78 from KSF. The ones in delrin are less expensive.

Rick,

I don't think you should buy something you don't really want, just to spend the money, and I don't know what you really want, so I can't make a realistic suggestion. So I'll just tell you what would be high on MY list, and maybe you'll say, "Hey, that's not a bad idea..." ;)

So a Pioneer X looks good to me; how can you go wrong with an Alox Vic with scissors??
MT Damascus knows whereof he speaks: a Böker beer barrel canoe would scratch a couple itches for me!
(Or a Böker congress carver is also the cat's meow, as people used to say.)
The walnut Rogers jigged bone Case series has really caught my attention; I'd probably go with that equal-end stockman.
(Of course, if it was me, I'd probably just end up buying a half-dozen assorted Rough Riders and call it good.)

Good luck with your dilemma!:D

Case Back Pocket in Pocket Worn Old Red Bone. One of the Case dealers has them discounted right now at $53.98. Fairly big knife, Tony Bose design.

I don't know what they can be found for, but the GEC Beer Scout is a fantastic knife. I got the Soda Scout and it is my favorite folder and one I won't ever get rid of.

47s, 18s, and 14s are all still available and around your price point.

The Walnut Rogers Case knives are very nice, as well.

If you like a lock back, the Moki Meek in Quince Wood might be up your alley. Its just under $70 before shipping at CK. The Moki Fish Owl is $75 before shipping, as well.

i would go with an A. wright lambs foot, with carbon steel and stag. Ive seen few posts and they look sweet to me.

Case folding hunter (cv)... on the verge of ordering one myself. I keep wondering how do I not have one already. And, for what it's worth, I considered making the same resolution, but then figured I'd try something I'd have better... any... luck with keeping. :D
