Finally got a chance to get out for an overnight.. This was my first campout since the birth of my 2nd son in April, so I've been long overdue. It consisted of a 3 mile hike along the AT ad than about a 1/4 mile hile off the trail to my "spot"..I went with 4 friends...When I got to camp I realized I left my camera in the car but a buddy was able to snap a few photos with his phone.

Most of the time was spent picking blue berries and swimming in a nearby pond.. But we did make some sassafrass tea..and a little bit of whisky consumption might have been involved.
I went light on the blades bringing only a large stockman knife and a fiskars hatchet.

heres me laying the base over the damp ground to start a fire on

Here's home for 4 of us for the night... (made of ponchos)

The trip was awesome over all although the skeeters where vicious... I'm hoping to get some more pics today from one of the other guys ..If so I'll be sure to post anything of interest.

Cool stuff RR! Nice improv hook! I also like ther simple shelter and your fire setup. Looks like it was a great time.

Nice trip! I'm heading out on Saturday for an overnighter and may try to emulate your spit.

Awesome, I'm so jealous! Thanks for posting the pics - that is a great ridgeline set up for the front of your tarp shelter. I never would have thought so your picture was worth a thousand words there! Kettle looks like your heaviest piece of kit!

Nice! At least you can get away for a bit for some R&R. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the Kindwords.. Ken the kettle is actually some ultra light synthetic metallic type material It's bulky but weighs very little I'll try to find a link.

Good times! I love ham and beans. I have a similar kettle, just google primus litech. Super tough and lightweight. How did you fasten the ponchos?

THe ponchos are equipped with Grommets.. and we just improvised up some stakes..
I'll do a thread on some ponco/tarp tying methods over the weekend maybe...

Also a great thing about this trip was that it reminded me about the sheer versatility of an axe... I honestly had to make up reasons to take my knife out.. Because the axe just happend to be do handy... Got to bone up on my axe skills a bit..

I also got a chance to use some crazy glue as a suture as I (very stupidly) folded the spey blade ove my stockman on to my finger while drilling a fire board. all in all it burned like hell but save me about 3 stitches.. However do not try this at home...LOL

+1 for super/crazy glue, stops the blood but the pain sure stays.

sounds like a great night 'cept for the skeeters.

Hmmm, AT, swimming in nearby pond, I'm pretty sure I know where you guys were :D In fact last fall not too far from there I encountered this trash heap of a campsite :grumpy:

Glad you were able to get out

I think I remember cleaning up a site similar to that some time last year.. There are allot of slobs that leave junk up there for sure....

That's cool Riley, nice little camp. Ever tried burning shelf fungus like insense? It seems to help repel mosquitoes.
