Well, I managed to lose my voice over the weekend, felt kinda crappy, so I decided to hit the woods for an overnight to recharge. I went up to the Lamine and threw up the hammock, and had a fire and some supper. It was a pretty bare bones trip, but not the PSK overnite I had intended. Too many damn ticks and bugs already. Im pushin it off for a bit. This spot has noplace to hammock, so I had a camp in the treeline, and had a fire pit in the clearing...

Had the Maxped 10x4 setup, and my Kodiak loaded to the gills....lol

Random pics....I set it up in a weird leanto/Aframe/ canopy setup....Just messing around with a big tarp in a small clearing. Made a neat little camp area. The hammock slung low, groundsheet underneath. If it rained I could drop the front side down if needed.

cool man, great shots and great setup! Did it help clear out the cobwebs any?

Looks like you had a great time. I totally agree on the bug/tick situation this time of the year. They can ruin a trip completely. Did you catch that trout yourself?

Thanks guys.....Yeah I did catch that Trout....Just not on this outing.

No it didnt help with cobwebs....They are everywhere.

Great pics J, looks like a nice getaway spot  What kind of night time temps are you getting out there?

Great pics and looks like you had a great time. I'm hoping to get out and do some camping myself one of these days.

I know what you mean about the bugs. It hasn't been as bad as it is here in a long time for it being this early in the year still.

Thanks for sharing the pics

hey j, what state do you live in, and what do you use as a tick prevenative? i live in southern indiana and we get "seed ticks"(the little bitty ones that look like poppy seeds, also known as turkey ticks) real F#@kin bad here. last year i had about 130 bites in 1 dayhike. deet only goes so far. also as a natural prevenative chewed up mint leaves works real good, just spread it on the skin. you can also plant it around your house or favorite camp spot to prevent those bastards from comming around.....thanks rob.

It wasnt bad....a bit buggy, but the fire kept the skeeters at bay, and the deet mustve been working cause I got no ticks on me...

Temps have been from the 40s-70s......Typical midwest fashion. It was mid to upper 60s last night, with a light breeze.

Great Stuff!!

Thanks man!

I live in Missouri. Bugs are a huge concern. They are everywhere, the seed ticks being the worst of the bastids. Lucky for me the ticks never seem to like me. Usually just find one or two crawling on me, with the very occasional attatched. Im also not particularly allergic to poison Ivy either, although I might be someday. I try to avoid it, and use Off Deet for insurance from the critters. Has worked so far.....lol

Nice pics!

Totally agree on the use of foil for campfire cooking!

You got that right HD.....No dishes, packs up small. If im just doin an overnight, its nice to have a good meal with no prep, and minimal clean up....

Great stuff J. Good reminder on packing foil. Gotta add some to my regular cook kit.

Hey J with all the bugs and ticks during the summer in the midwest do you find an enclosed shelter the only way to go like your hammock or would you still be fine on the ground under a tarp?

I've been looking into getting a better shelter this year and i'm gathering info on what will be best in my area.

Thanks!

My hammock is the only way for me in the summer. The ticks and skeeters and other bugs would carry me off. Im sure it is possible, but Im not risking lyme for saving weight. A hammock dont take up much room anyways though.

If you notice, I sling my hammock very low. When im lying in it im off the ground, but not much. Pitch the tarp like a lean to and you have a great summer shelter setup. Thats why I prefer the 10x10 BCUSA Tarp. Its square so you can throw it like a diamond fly over the hammock, or set it up Aframe or lean to.....A lot of options.

Did the thirteen year Cicadas come out there yet. They are out here. Talk about loud.I love that droning hum. They are great fish bait.

I think its amazing how they stay in the ground for thirteen years then come out like that.

Great stuff Jake! Glad you had a good night. That trout looked delicious. I bet Tina was happy you were sleeping outdoors after eating all that Asparugus.. :D

nice little spot- a quick overnight is better than no overnight!! :)

that rampless Gunny looks very nice :D
