Quick overnight in the river valley....

Cool pics Jake, a little benadryl makes any night a restful one eh?

Oh yeah!

Did the thirteen year Cicadas come out there yet. They are out here. Talk about loud.I love that droning hum. They are great fish bait.

I think its amazing how they stay in the ground for thirteen years then come out like that.

Yup...They were out in force. Very cool sounds, and neat that they are so old already. Ive never used em for fish, but I will now. Thanks! Any particular species they target? I d love to fly fish with one.....

Great stuff Jake! Glad you had a good night. That trout looked delicious. I bet Tina was happy you were sleeping outdoors after eating all that Asparugus.. :D

Hahaha....You know it. Thanks buddy. Be nice if you were there to share that meal and fire with me.

nice little spot- a quick overnight is better than no overnight!! :)

that rampless Gunny looks very nice :D

True!! Thanks its a great blade MT....Right up your alley.

Great pics Jake. Those Mulberries are good. I have a couple different varieties planted at my place.

Ya know Nate, I prefer em to blackberries actually. They are tasty!!! Id love to see your spread someday.

If we cant make it out in the fall, we will early next year. 100%. My wife needs her some norcal.

Just about all fish will eat them . Ive never tried one on a fly rod, but that should be a natural presentation.

LOL (EDIT-scratch that, ROFLMAO) to the question of sleeping on the ground in MO in the summer! I have been half-eaten alive in MY BACKYARD in MO by buggy critters...no way in hell I'm sleeping out there without a tent or a hammock.

I'm rolling back to MO for the Fourth...gonna do me some serious redneck stuff, LOL this cali living is stifling my inner hillbilly!

Dane, Thanks man. Im gonna give em a try.

Thrillbilly, Gimme a shout when ya come....We can meet up for a hike or somethin if your so inclined.

Jake,
I have a few question for you, if you don't mind.

Did you strap the 10x4 to your Kodiak when you hiked or did you "sling it" over your shoulder? If you did "sling it" how did it ride while wearing the Kodiak? Also how comfy was the kodiak with a full load?

Thanks.

Sorry for the delayed reply.......

I packed the 10x10 BCUSA tarp in the water bottle pocket of the Kodiak. It fits perfect. My Poncho always stays in the hydration compartment. I didnt mount the bottle holder to the pack. I made that leather strap for it, and sling it over the opposite shoulder. It really balances out the weight and you can hike around pretty agile. Ive done quite a few hikes with a bottle/cup in the side pocket of the Kodiak and all loaded up with a nights worth of gear it does put a hurt on the shoulder after awhile but with the 10x4, its a whole lot better now.. But for just a dayhikes worth of gear it is very comfy. I also use this bag as my EDC bag for work. I work about an hour away, and for 24 hr shifts. Its been really handy. I Have a Snugpak Sleeka35 pack with a built in rainfly that I usually take on overnights, up to 3 days.

Hennessy makes a nice hammock. :)

Yes they do....I have the side zip and love it. Ive slept quite a few nights out in it now..I really didnt like the fly. But with a tarp, they are stellar.

I love playing with differant ways of settin it up. They are quite versitle. I set it up as a ground tent one night with a huge layer of pine needle duff under it. The fly as a lean to. It was pretty comfy. Temps were in the 30s at night and I slept with only a poncho liner so I will say it was a cold night....lol It was warmer on the ground with all that duff then swingin in the breeze with only a woobie.

Smashing photos sir.

I've never tried that style of hearth board before.
One for the list, thanks.

Great pictures, I was curious how do you like the Maxpedition Kodiak? I was thinking about either buying that or the Sitka just haven't decided which to get yet. I currently have the monsoon gearslinger but quickly realized it is not to EDC friendly due to the shape of it.
