I put the scales on a small EDC i am working on last night. This morning i decided that it needed a third pin. Since the other pins are already set and I am really just doing this for looks is it ok that i just ran my carbide bit on through and slid in an additional epoxy covered pin? That #30 bit went right on though, and if there's one thing I've learned making knives is that if it seams too easy, you probably did it wrong.

I would just be worried of the handle material, if it is already glued on there? Depending on the material it could heat up or become a little sloppy and leave a bit of a glue ring or burn ring around the hole.

why not two pins , one for one side of handle ? You drill just wood scale , not steel ?

Shouldn't be any issues, and is probably a stronger fit for having done it. Shape away.

Turned out good thanks!

Thank you sir! I am a little wary of wood scales, but I think that flattening them by hand on a slab is the way to go. Of course the more experienced guys know this, but I'm a little stubborn I guess.

Looks good, and I agree the 3rd pin was needed. Something I've done is use two small pins in the narrow part of handle, then a larger pin in the fat part - seems to look good that way.

BTW, what wood is that you used?
