I've decided on using a blower system with PID control for my first forge. My forge will be 10" OD with 2" of wool and 18" long OD.

I've read Stacy's posts about building the blower burner and I'm going with 1 1/4" Pipe. I'll be mainly doing forge welding.

Do you think one burner will be enough for this size forge?

Should be.
I have a 17 inch vertical forge with 2 inches insulation. I am using a 1 1/4 inch pipe as a burner. We have done quite a bit of damascus and have no cold shunts. WE have cut several feather billets successfully. Mine is also blown. You may have a cold spot at the far distance from the burner.
Have fun

Sorry I didn't have auto notifications on and didn't see this.

@Kuraki, I was going to have a 2" hole in the back with a piece of metal to swing over it if necessary. I thought you always want to have a vent in back. Should I not have one?

@TJ Smith, I was going to put in another port for another burner just in case. I was going to put the burner port straight, toward the back, in from the side at the top so it can swirl and as Stacy mentions angled toward the front of the forge about 15 degrees or so.

It isn't necessary. A closed back forge will lose less heat is the only reason I brought it up. It's nice to have an opening for doing longer work though.

You're better off using a fire brick. If you use a plate you'll want to insulate it with wool and refractory.
