Quick Question for Dozier Owners

I'm not sure if I'm asking this in the right forum, but please direct me if I'm in the wrong place. I would like to know which angle Dozier owners use to sharpen their knives on the Sharpmaker, and whether the D2 steel requires the use of the diamond hones? I can get mine pretty sharp, but not exactly hair popping, and I use the 20 degree setting. Thanks.

You don't NEED diamond stones, but you're going to want them. D2 at the hardness Bob sends them out(60.5, I believe) is quite wear resistant and regular stones are going to take a lot longer.

Ok, I was guessing that they would be a plus, but I wasn't sure. Still not sure about the angle, though. Contrary to what I often read, I definitely can't skin multiple animals without resharpening, and I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong angle or something. Maybe just operator error? :D

A highly refined edge is key to getting cutting performance out of D2.

Sounds to me like like you are having problems with the large carbides.

If it's really bad send it back to Dozier for resharpening, and strop it regularly to keep it screaming sharp.

There's not a better steel for skinning/butchering then Dozier's D2 as far as I'm concerned.

That's a really nice knife; is it a Dozier model? Thanks for the help, I think I'll get the diamond hones and try stropping and see how that goes.
