I bought a 2nd post vise at an auction about a month ago to go with my 2nd anvil. I wanted to set up another work area in the barn or even in the yard when weather permits.
My goal was to be able to move this vise around and keep the other one fixed to the bench...
I searched the garage and barn and found these materials to start the stand:
The big tube is from an old house floor jack that I had laying around. The 2 plates were leftovers. So I measured, cut and started welding:
Top and bottom welded up fine. Next is a test fit (using some c-clamps on the vise mounts):
Drill up the holes for the mounting bolts, add a ring on the bottom plate to secure the post:
Fits together pretty good... comes apart really easy too so I can move it from the barn to under the tree in the back yard on a nice day
It's nice to accomplish something for the shop when time permits.
