So after shipping a couple knives now I kinda feel like I'm doing something wrong. So far I've used ups because that's the first place you'd see after crossing the border. I don't recall all the prices but the most recent being a tops msk that cost me 18 dollars to ship. Did I get soaked? I normally will buy a form of packaging on my side at Canada post and then bring it across to avoid the 2-5 day wait at customs. They never ask me what type of shipping I would like, never weigh my packages. They've all shown 1lb on the receipts, obviously a msk 2.5 is not a pound. So should I be using usps? Or maybe there's been extra fee's because it's a shipping and freight place that happens to ship through ups not an actual ups office?

Yes, $18 is a bit steep. If you are coming across the border, use USPS Priority Flat Rate shipping. The small flat rate box will fit almost all folders (depending on the size of the box the knife comes in), some small fixed blades, and will ship anywhere in the US for $5.95. The medium flat rate box for larger knives is $12.65. Insurance is extra. The boxes are included in the price and are available at post offices and other shipping stores.

If you are bringing it across yourself and then mailing it, use the United States Postal Service instead. They have flat rate shipping boxes and it isn't too expensive. Ive done a lot of knife shipping and they are really easy to deal with.

Ok guys, thanks a lot. That sounds much better. These boxes, are they on the shelf? Meaning do I package the knife or do I approach the cash and specify which I would like and allow them to package??

They're usually on a shelf. There are 4 sizes I think, so you have options depending on what you are shipping. Insurance isn't too expensive either.

Check out the details at The USPS Website

Sorry, I wasn't really leaving feedback so I didnt think of this corner. Thought shipping a knife was sort of a discussion of knives. Thanks.
