I know this could go in the Spydie forum, but I need an answer quick: what's the difference between the Standard and the G-10 Rookie? They look so very similar. Is it just the thinner, pointer profile of the Rookie?
Thanks.

From my understanding, the Standard is almost identical in overall height/length dimensions as the Delica, but is quite a bit stouter in the "3rd" dimension due to a thicker blade and handle. If it is like the Rookie, the G10 handle has a solid steel spacer and a sible steel liner. Being closer to the Delica, it has the larger handle and very pronounced hump for the blade hole.

I have the Rookie, and it feels a lot smaller, due to the smaller handle profile, smaller hole & blade profile, even though the G10 makes it a little heavier than the Zytel Delica. Also, the Rookie has a tip swedge, enhancing it's attractivenes, but possibly weakening the tip. I like the Rookie a lot. Some folks have complained that the Standard is too bulky, but other folks carry all stainless Endura's & Police models, so who's to say?

I assume you are comparing a G10 Standard to a G10 Rookie, and Anthony is confused.

The difference between a G10 Standard and G10 Rookie are in blade profile and handle shape. The Standard is bulkier, the Rookie is slimmer. The Standard is like a G10 Delica, the Rookie is a scaled-down Police.

Gotcha. Now, one final thought: is the Rookie tip-up and the Standard tip-down?
I like everything else about the Rookie more, but I love tip-down Spydie lockbacks for some reason.

And one other thing: Smoky Mountain (eknifeworks.com) now lists a Rookie and a Rookie II. Both are G10. What's up?

I'm holding my G10 Rookie right now (no snickering

), and it is tip-up. Here's a good pic:

From my research, it looks like the Standard is tip-DOWN, as evidenced by the following picture, which also gives a side-by-side with a Delica:

I could not find much refence to "Rookie II", except for this site, which says it's only offered in SS, and shows a SS version:

This might make sense, since the naming convention with a lot of Spyderco models (Delica, Endura, Native) is that the Zytel version gets the original name, and the SS version gets the "II" designation. I paid $39.99 for my Rookie from SMKW, so to be on the safe side, I would suggest you go with the "Rookie" for 39.99, in case SMKW has the "Rookie II" description wrong.

Awesome. You guys rule. Of course, I probably will just wind up with both.
AC, I bet they're just a little different from that Point Guard I'm getting...
