Quick story of what happened this morning

LOL@RAT! So true. I can hear him saying that too.

USAFSP:

Dude, have you had a chance to field test the RAT 3? I'm really eyeing this piece, but I want to know how it performs. What kind of jobs is it excellent at, and what kind of jobs is it good enough for? Also, let us know about the ease of sharpening.

Thanks!
Nothing more than the mudain. A few boxes and in the kitchen. I am taking it to a few "Expert" schools before I go to Iraq, along with another one for a team member on my brother squad to test. I will post results as I get them. I will tell you that from what I have seen so far, it is an amazing little knife. For the price you can't afford to not own one.

Never owned a Sebenza (yet :) ); I had a Gator which wasn't bad, considering the price (nice grippy scales, too, as I recall). I'm pretty much a Spydie fan at this point.

But it sounds to me like your E-3 know-it-all is rather taken with himself.
It's not worth your time to try to *perhaps* inform someone who already knows all the answers  . Just avoid any areas where there might be a mirror, since your chances of encountering him there are probably pretty high :D

Sounds more like an attitude problem. Maybe anything else he has he thinks is better than what someone else has.

I once knew a guy who was so full of himself it was amazing. I think he was full of something else too...but anyway. Someone wanted to borrow my knife for something, so i handed it to her (only days old at the time, i could still shave with it) she used it to cut some fabric.

Then Mr. Fullofsomething asked to see it, felt the edge, then proudly passed around one of those butter knife-sharp chinese buck 110 knock offs and everyone promptly concluded that his knife was sharper than mine, also, it was bigger. Because bigger knives = better, you see...

Yeah. There always is the occasional know it all. You just gotta ignore them and do your own thing. I had a custom tell me once that the only correct way to throw a knife is by holding the blade. He knows cause he was in the French Foreign Legion.... Doubt it.

Just be thankful that you know your quality and that you aren't serving with him/touring. They will always be out there and I try to use them for a good laugh rather then get annoyed. Soon as they leave, have a good laugh about what just happened :D

And my Pak Ah Stannie knife is SOOOOOO much sharper than your Sebenza or Rat. You just look at it and you'll get cut :D lol See what I mean? ;) :D

Has nothing to do with the knives...he just needed to be right.
There's plenty like him in the world too.
Whaddaya gonna do?
:grumpy:

The important thing is that you know.
Not just to be right, but why you're right.

Depending on your rank, you could order him to stand at attention (if the US armed forces permit their officers/NCOs to do that when a lecture is in order) and give him the one-finger salute...just kidding. ;)

I am not too worried about him. One of the guys told me that he does that about everything. Thank god I out rank him by a longshot. I just figured you guys would enjoy the stupidity.

People like to argue about things they know nothing about. I don't understand it, but I've seen it proven enough times to know it's true.
Just take a look at any forum relating to politics, religion, or any "tactical" forum. Or cars, or power tools, or knives for that matter. Your E3 is not alone ;)
If they were actually interested in learning anything, they'd ask questions instead of spouting off facts that are only real in their imaginations.

Sounds like guys I run into that tell me that their "off the shelf" (won't mention brand names) rifles will shoot a one holer at 500 yards
Last time I was at the range with my M40A1 (built by Texas Brigade Armory) the kid next to me said "Wanna bet my rifle outshoots your?" I glanced at his rig and said "Nah, I guess you would win" and left it at that. His rifle? Savage 110 (stock) in 30-06 and a monster Tasco scope. :D

I have to admit to being one of those kind of guys about a year ago. To me, "a knife was a knife was a knife". Then my interest got piqued by a guy who works for me as he loved his Spyderco. I didn't even carry a knife at the time as a set of car keys seemed to get the job done many times.

I then found this forum and it opened up an entire world of elightenment for me and the transition to "knut" began in earnest. I became so absorded that I own at least a dozen quality knives; mostly BM's and Kershaws and a couple of Bucks. I also purchased two strops; a Sharpmaker and an Edge Pro.I also gave every guy who works for me a Benchmade Grip in D2 and the two ladies Kershaw Chives (seemed more feminine). I am their bossknut as well a "Resident Sharpening Guru".

I think that the issue is that most people only know a knife as something "sharp" and as a utility item (though most that I have encountered are dull). As long as it gets the job done, albeit rather shoddily or with much exertion, it's fine.

Now get me started on cigars or golf clubs and I'll argue with someone all day.

Keep safe!

Actually, the joke is on you. Isn't it clear that the Gerber Gator is a better product based on the name alone? Gators are so tough and strong and mean, so the knife must be that way too. Also, any company that takes the time to use illiteration in the naming of their knives certainly has a better product. CRK Sebenza...no illiteration there at all. I mean, what the heck is a Sebenza anyway? Certainly doesn't sound tough, mean or sharp...probably means "poop knife" in a foreign language...that's my guess.

On a serious note, thanks for your service in the forces.

God you know your mostly right! SeBenZa means "Work" in Africa. Who the hell likes to work? Not me. I would quit the military and pick money that grows from trees if I could. Now a Gator..... I would love to be a Gator. I could sleep in a hot muddy swamp all day. I could eat old guys trying to find thier golf balls. Man that is the life. Thanks for opening my eyes.

I am not sure but somewhere there is a whole clan of know-nothing-argue-anything fruitcakes and they are multiplying like rabbits. Smile and walk away from him knowing he simply shows his own stupidity when he makes these senseless arguments or impossible claims. Stay as far away as possible from this moron when you are in Iraq. Thanks for you service to our country.

That's funny. A buddy of mine calls that the "inverse fertility law" - meaning that the folks that you would least want to see reproduce tend to have the most kids...good stuff.

Then again, I have to give that guy a bit of repect just for serving our country. He might be ignorant about knives and stubborn about it, but my family and I still appreciate his service.

Hey USAFSP - good to know about the Sebenza! I agree that eating golfers is much cooler. In a few hundred years, those gators will evolve to have a nice golf ball looking growth on their noses...that way when the unsuspecting golfer go to get their "ball"....CHOMP!!! Gotta love evolution....

Back when I was in the Army, if a soldier carried a folding knife it was a Buck 110, Gerber Gator, or Spyderco Endura. If he carried a multitool, there was only Leatherman and Gerber. That was it. End of discussion.

That's what the PX sold, that's what he bought. Everyone knows that the PX only sells the finest quality products. The PX does not sell CRK because they suck and are not good enough for the fine servicemembers in the US Military.

USAFSP-

Like I mentioned the other day, your average SP (or person in general) doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground about good cutlery. This dude just sounds like a general tool.

As and interesting aside before I got out I had a fellow SSgt think my Emerson/Perrin La Griffe was throwing knife! :D
