Quick tips (as we think of them)

You know the consolidated shopping deal is a great part of it for me. They have a huge wholesale catalog so you can pore through it and decide what you need and get it all in one place. You can spend hours and save a few pennie here and hours there to save a few pennies there by shopping around but honestly I feel I'm better off getting it all in one place, only paying shipping once and saving lots of time shopping around. In our business time is money for sure. Better spent in the shop. The only down side to me is that their shipping from OH to here even though they use Fed Ex averages about 10 days, so you have to plan ahead. but that is just adapting. That is what I use the Evil Empire for. If I forget something or need just a couple of something real quick I call Tandy. They will have it to me in a couple of days.

Haha you know who has been the quickest with shipping? Hide House. It took them a few days to ship because of the quake, but when they did it arrived overnight. Shipping leather (for obvious reasons) is fairly expensive but their charge was normal. I still can't get over the quality. I did some dye work on it last night and it was brilliant to work with. Didn't even need my tricks to get a perfect black. Stamps beautifully too. I recommend anyone try their premium import double shoulder in 7/8oz. I hope they stay consistent because I'll never switch if they do. At this point I'm willing to admit that it's as good as the HO Ive had and better than the Wickett & Craig that I have. An order of magnitude better than the other import stuff that I've tried as well.

Yeah Hide house is alwasy quick. They had another store down in San Dimas that handled hardware and supplys too but closed it when the economy went belly up a few years back. Glad you like their leather. I get all my legging leather from them.

I think quality leather is one of those times where the starting material will make you a better craftsman from the start. I really believe you can achieve good results with beginner tools, just becomes tedious and adds unnecessary effort, but crappy leather is hard to improve. I've got a whole side that just sits there taking up space. I use it for welts and testing, but it's gonna take a while to use it up.

Thanks for nudging me in the direction of Weaver. I finally signed up for wholesale pricing and set up my account. I'm beginning to see exactly what you wrote up above. Saving a little by shopping around isn't really saving much. I'm not sure if I'm seeing wholesale prices when I log in on the website yet. I believe it takes a couple of days for them to process my ETIN, but I don't know if that changes the pricing on the website or if it's already showing correct pricing. I guess I'll cross reference the pricing with the catalog when it arrives. Either way, I'm sure the pricing is correct at checkout.

Next stop is to get elite pricing from the Evil Empire and SLC. May as well sign up with Zach White while I'm at it.

Any other vendors that do wholesale prices that I should be aware of?
