Quick...!

If your dad mostly wears jeans, then I would suggest either a Spyderco Native or a SAK. If your dad is mostly into slacks or suits, a nice Case slip joint is in order.

Victorinox Pioneer. Small enough to carry in slacks but big enough to do real knife work with. Plus it has two very useful screwdrivers, a bottle opener, a can opener, and an awl/reamer. The alox scales make it near indestructible.

Last year, I went back to my early-80s vintage Pioneer for EDC after going through an assortment of lockbacks and tactical folders. It's too useful to leave at home.

I ended up getting him the 110. I got it for $32.30, which is about what I'd pay online, and I can foresee him having it for the rest of his life and probably his grandkids lives too. (None yet, heheh).

Excellent pick. Strangely, my dad is now the only one without a pocket knife, and who probably wouldn't use a pocket knife. I've been into knives for a few years now, and got my sister a Benchmade 707 a while back. Then earlier this year my mom was seeing my sister and I with our Benchmade Axis locks and thought they were so cool that she had to have one, so I helped her pick out the BM 530. Still don't foresee my dad ever getting into knives (I think he thinks the rest of us are a little strange), but it's good to see that yours now has a quality knife on the way.

Good choice...don't forget about the Buck Custom Shop if he ever wants to get a dolled up one. Maybe next year.

My dad never carried a knife either, so about 20 years ago I bought him a single bladed Swiss army knife. I have never seen that knife since. I have to laugh, He still opens a bag of dogfood with a pair of scissors. Some people just aren`t into knives(wierd huh).

I think it was a paticularly good idea i wnr with the 110 now that I think about it-he's a flamenco guitar player. The SAK's have a potential to crack or break fingernails, which are ESSANTIAL to proper playing of this type of music.

Spyderco Native III, plain edge. Good handle ergonomics, quality blade steel, solid lockback design, nice lightweight wire pocketclip and great price. Would make a good intro to pocketknives. Oh, great warranty too.
