I have a BM mini-Pika (just under 3"). It is a little tight too. What (other than an auto) is the quickest to deploy?

I think you'd be hard pressed to find many small knives that are quicker than the Kershaw Scallion and Chive.

Yup, that's my vote. I guess it depends on how small "Small" is. .

i can open my Camillus Mini-Cuda faster than a friend of mine's Scallion. iunno how popular the Mini-Cuda is these days tho. plus, it's probly just due to practice.

I've got a Sizzler on the way -- a Camillus Heat with a 2.5" blade. I think it should pop open pretty fast. :)

My small Sebenza counts as a small knife, doesn't it? Without any assist, it is still very fast. Just a snap of the thumbstud and the blade is locked open -- but most one-hand openers are pretty fast. It depends more on your technique than any fancy technology.

I find the assited opening knives to be slower to open than other types of knives. I find I can open the BM Axis lock models the quickets, and then it would probably be a Spyderco using the spydie drop, etc. It really all comes down to practice and technique.

Heh, heh...Ken Onion....scallion and chive...heh heh

I got spoiled there for a while carrying a Buck Odyssy. It was the quickest to deploy of any of the folders I've carried hands down.

EDIT for correction. I said it was the Odyssy but in fact it was the Buck Lightning I was referring to. My bad. I have one of each and got them mixed up.

Well, In my experience, it'd be one of two Spydercos:

The Paramilitary, which can be "spyder-dropped" (pinch the exposed spine of the blade in the draw and "flick" the handle down into your palm) as fast as the full-sized Military,

Or the aluminum Salsa which, because of it's weak detent, tip-up blade, and "cobra hood" can be made to "wave" open in the draw.

My Kershaw Chive is the fastest opening knive I had so far. Too bad the spring breaks after a number of openings. I already changed 2 springs so far :(
OTOH, Spydies are pretty fast to deploy too. They are comparable with switchblades, really.

Mini-Griptilian!

seconded. my mini-grip 555 with the zip-tie is like lightning.

p.s. i like my full-size pika tight but if you loosen the pivot pin on your mini it'll get pretty speedy itself.

I'll chime in with stratocaster on this one...if it is small enough go with a mini cqc-7b...my edc and can probably beat some autos.

I will also say that the BM mini griptillian is slick...I bought one for my sister's boyfriend and I also wished I would have kept it for an alternate.

Kershaw (Random) Leek. Tip up carry, pull it from pocket, index finger falls naturally and immediately to flipper as you draw, blade flings out with a snap courtesy of speed-safe. Fastest (& most reliably so) presentation I've found in any small folder so far.

Guys, I think we're a bit out of the point. It sais "other than an auto" and I read mostly refferences to autos.
