Quickest small folder?

The fastest I've used so far is simply a Spyderco Endura with a zip tie in the hole. It's open the moment it's out. I've had and used several "assist" knives, as well as two axis lock BMs, and the Endura w/zip tie is faster, at least for me.

I think he meant full autos, not assisted openers. I think the chive is about the fastest because it is so small, provided you don't have it safety locked. The lock takes away from the quick opening, but I usually use it since I don't want it coming open in my pocket.

Could someone please explain the zip-tie effect? How does this assist in opening your folder?

The zip tie is meant to catch on the rim of your pocket and snap the blade open exactly the same way as an Emerson "wave" hook. I've done it once, on my Delica, and wasn't too impressed, but plenty of people swear by it. On the plus side, it's cheap, easy, and easily reversble, so you lose nothing by trying it out. :)

I have a Kershaw Leek and it's pretty damn fast. Just got back from a local shop and handled a Scallion and a Chive. Both VERY fast. I really like the Scallion. It's smaller the my Leek, but it felt really nice. Maybe because it was thicker then the Leek (liner lock vs. frame lock). So it felt like there was more to hold on to.

Nothing is faster than an Emerson with the wave.
Either a Mini-Commander or the previously mentioned Mini-CQC7.

Porter, I just got a new Kershaw catalog in the mail the other day and noticed they offer a Leek with a liner lock and aluminum handles just like the Scallion. If you liked the feel of the Scallion and want that in the Leek it looks like it is available now. Kershaw will send out the catalog to you for free. I called for another torsion bar replacement (mine broke) and they sent it out to me and in the box with the part was the catalog and some brochures. The new Centifonte Onion knife looks awesome. It has a really cool Wharncliff blade on it too. .

The emerson karambit is the fastest out of the pocket knife made, period. Slip your finger in the hole and pull...*snap* the blade is open and ready to go, and with a positive grip... With your finger in the hole, there is no need for any thumb placement to grasp and pull. Even full autos need a button pushed and assited openers need a nudge to get them started... AFTER you have pulled it from the pocket with your thumb AND finger. The emerson karambit is a one finger draw.
Show me another knife made that can be drawn and opened with a single finger. The mini CQC7 is fast... I know, I have one, but the karambit is still faster.
