Quietest tactical folder

Couldn't you just take a lockback, depress the backspring, open the blade and then let go of the back spring... A liner lock or a frame lock is always going to have some type of snap because the lock slab has to snap into place. But on a lock back you can control the speed at which the lock engages by holding the back spring down as you open the blade I believe.

I can make my liner locks quiet the same way its just a bit more awkward to do than with a lockback. you just make sure the liner doesnt snap open until the blade is all the way out then let it go real soft like....quieter than a mouse

oops guess that was already adressed by firebert....I should read the whole thread b/f I respond

Didn't you guys read the whole question? :)

Lets just put out a random hypothetical situation.

You are an L.A. S.W.A.T. officer called onto a hostage situation in a hospital. You are sent in through an alternate unseen route, lets say a duct or service access. The only way to procceed with the rescue is to take out the gunman at the beginning of the hallway....silently. Unfortunately you only have one hand to do so in the tight confines of the duct (can't really swing your arm) because you are already using your other silent folder, with your off-hand, to silently terminate another bad guy coming at you from the rear. You reach for your blade but which one.

And yes this excludes fixed blades....HYPOTHETICALLY.

I agree, the question would have been better (and more productive) without the LAPD SWAT ninja example.

I don't like blood....

32 rounds of 147 grain subsonic from my suppressed MP5 to the cranium should do it.

Next question to you bloodthirsty lot is.....

Where would you stick him?
Would you slash, cut or stab?
Or combinations?
Would you catch his falling body so there is no noise? ...and get yourself covered in blood and gore!!!! ...and vomit into your gasmask!

Methinks I'll stick to the MP5 (with sound suppressor)...

How do you silently get out of an air duct if you are grasping a folding knife in one of your hands?

How are you silent in air duct to begin with?

Those things are made out of thin sheet metal...any more pressure than a pound or two and they start depressing. A person in one would sound like a drunken and angry water buffalo surrounded by thin sheet metal.

Yeah, I know. It's a wonderful analogy. >_>

Anyway, pretty much any folder can be silent. The Axis lock system can sound like you're cocking a gun or you can make it completely silent.

And why do you have to take out the gunman silently?

OK, will the man that must be killed silently, reanimate upon death?

Because that complicates the scenario.

You are sent in through an alternate unseen route, lets say a duct or service access.

Now I know what a TV dinner feels like.

Oh yeah, no blood involved there.

If you'd ever heard a suppressed MP5, you'd know that they aren't even close to silent. About as "quiet" as a powerful air rifle. Especially if you don't have the bolt set to lock back after the first shot. Once that bolt starts going- "CHAKKA CHAKKA CHAKKA!" Sort of like snapping a Benchmade Rukus open and closed as hard as you can, really fast.

ok...i'll play. You sneak up throw one arm/ hand around his neck covering mouth/nose, flick your knife open, it'll be the last sound he hears, unless you whisper a cool line like "Stick around"...but be careful not to knife your arm...
but I have to say this is mall ninja-ish

ah the more I hear about the situation I think I would just shimmy back out of the vent and hand my badge and gun to the captain and go sell flowers for a living. ;)
