I would need to know what is max temp. that you would quench 1084 in, and still have a fine blade?
Would have a big batch of 8-8 1/2" blades, so how many
should I try to HT before letting oil cool?
Thanks, Jerry

Depends on how much oil you have. 5 gallons can do a lot more than 1 gallon. If you used 5 gallons of Parks 50 and start at 100f (it actually doesn't call for being heated) you could go till the oil is about 140f or so I would think. That would take a few blades. Get a thermometer for your oil. But, why hurry such a critical part of the process. Do 5 and then place them in the tempering oven, wait 30 min and do 5 more, then place them in the oven. I would use a batch cycle type system.

I do lots of 20 in 5 gallons of oil at room temp.

The oil starts to heat up after #12 or #13.

Thanks guys--I'll call top max temp @ 140 and let it cool or add more oil.
start with 4 gal and use the other gal. to cool
Thanks alot, Jerry
