Everyone of us has certain little quirks that help persuade us to like or dislike a knife. Some people like liner locks. Some people hate them (me). Some people hate thumb studs. Some people love them (again , me).

A few things that I really like are : Axis lock , full stainless liners that are visible (not nested) and pretty thick blade stock. Things that I am not wild about : liner locks , when the spine of the blade is rounded and flippers (hate !).

So what are some of your quirks ?

I like thick blades, frame locks, FFG, and knives that are stronger. Things I don't like (but can make exceptions) are hollow grinds, liner locks, pinned knives, thin tips and knives with no liners

I generally like the most blade in the smallest package - like the Caly 3.5, which has a long blade relative to its size and is thin. Also, the Al Mar Eagle Ultralite, which has a long blade in a very lightweight knife. The Spyderco Ulize is also a big blade in a very pocketable form factor. I like all knives in all flavors (currently carrying a Cold Steel Recon 1 XL tanto), but I generally dig those knives that offer a lot of blade in a smallish or lightweight package for ease of EDC.

I dislike thick, overbuilt knives like Tanics, Medford, Direware. A Strider or Sebenza or Hinderer is plenty strong enough for 99% of users.

I prefer thumbstuds, and am now liking liner locks if they are strong.

I , too , am attracted to knives that pack a good size blade in a relatively small and pocket-friendly package. I have found that the Benchmade 710 is a perfect example. I carry it and I love it.

I am a huge Spyderco fan. But as much as I love them , I prefer thumb studs too.

I'm not a huge fan of the thumbstud, I love it on a blur but not much else. I love a flipper though

Boo: flippers, bone handles, thumb holes, recurves, lefty chisel grinds, clips that eat my pocket
Cheer: lockbacks, framelocks, g10, spearpoints, bigger blades, good detent

I'm also fond of back spacers. Even if it's just a half. Although a knife without one isn't necessarily a deal breaker.

Like: Smaller knives, low-ride clips, swedges, lighter weights, framelocks or linerlocks with strong engagement
Don't like: Flippers, assisted openers, recurves, massive logos or branding on the blade, ridiculous names (Death on Contact? Really!?)

It doesn't mean I won't try anything with the dislikes, it just means there's a bigger hill to climb for pocket time. :)

dislike: knives that are too flashy with designs, flippers, assisted opening
like: liner locks(because somebody has to) my buck vantage select has been great for me.

Yes = Axis, frame & liner locks, uncoated blade, carbon fiber, thumbstud or hole, not too heavy

No = backlocks, coated blades, assisted open, recurves, big handle + little blade, waves, rivets, tantos, flippers...

Likes: axis lock (or similar, cbb/bolt lock, ect), super thin knives (which usually means back lock so I've learned to love them, didnt before), thumb holes, FFG's, wave's, sheepsfoot blades, 50/50 choil's, ambidextrous knives (I'm right handed but one of my daughters is left handed as are many of my friends, I try to buy ambi gear whenever possible).

Dislikes: dimascus print blades, deep-carry clips where none of the knife sticks above the pocket (like the caly), knives that only offer tip-down carry, stiff and/or not tall enough frame/liner locks, scandi grinds, thumb studs, flippers (but I do like the tiny little flippers like on the kershaw skyline/shallot), tanto blades, rivets/pins, stone washed/bead blasted blades, stand-offs, knives that can't be disassembeled, lanyard holes that won't fit 2 pieces of paracord.

As it turns out there's alot longer list of stuff that'll keep me from buyin a knife than there is stuff that makes me want one.

Like: Thin grind, fine grain, thumb hole, flat grind, high hollow grind, liner locks, frame locks, back locks.

Dislikes: Flippers, Axis locks, thick blades/grinds.

I like wide handles that fill the hand, flippers, deep carry clips, blade that hides in the handles, plain edges, smooth pivots and sexy lines

I don't like Chinese, back locks,thin tips,lockrock,

I don't care what kind of lock a knife has, or its deployment method. I like good bladesteels and quality materials, great ergos, and a well thought-out design. It's gotta have nice lines.

What's that knife on the left in your avatar?

I like the the simplicity and functionality of the William Henry one hand button lock.
