Quirks

Dislikes: Overbuilt folders, thumb studs, assisted opening and lock backs.
Likes: Ti, framelocks, linerlocks, CF, good blade to handle ratio, FLIPPERS!

Dislike: Axis locks, lock backs (other than the Tri-Ad! Love my Tuff Lite), tip-up only flippers (check the scars on my fingertips for the reason why), secondary lock mechanisms (rotoblocks, lawks), assisted/auto opening, weight over 6oz, recurves, any blade play whatsoever in any direction, relatively fragile steels (S30v, ZDP-189), easily scratched blade coatings, non-disassembleable construction, late lockup, mystery steels, writing or excessive logos.

Gravitating towards these days: Framelocks and linerlocks with early lockup, wharncliffes.

Love: Fine-grain steels, perfect lockup, silky-smooth pivots (my new Emerson Mini CQC 15 might be on the block for not having this... Or, really, any of those.), bearing pivots.

As someone else noted with their own dislikes, there are a lot more things that prevent me from buying a knife than incline me to buy one. I suppose it's a process of refining tastes as opposed to a search for any knife with specific aspects. One thing I have noticed is that everything I keep for any amount of time is overbuilt... From my 0550blk down to my Tuff Lite. Sturdy lil' bastard.

Another thing that I'm not crazy about is when a good amount of the blade is still visible and expose when the knife is in the closed position. I'm talking about the side of the blade (not the cutting edge).

For example : I like the Manix2 a lot. But I hate how much blade is still exposed when it's closed. I wish it could be hidden more into the handle. But I think a fare amount of Spydercos are like that due to the Spyder hole having to be reachable.

why don't you like axis locks?

I've had 5 Axis locks (943, 940 x2, 710, 551) and while all were nice, they did have small amounts of up and down blade play. I don't like knives that just flop open without much detent - Axis locks have very little detent - and I had to really crank down on the pivots to get the amount of blade opening resistance that I want.

I've also had three broken Omega springs.

I like an open frame design to make cleaning easier.
Liner locks are what I feel most comfy with but the Axis is a nice lock also and hope to try more.

I like a smooth-action knife. Drop point blades, and Spydercos. Lockback or liner lock is prefered. Frame locks if I have to.

My quirks are few and simple, fit and finish have to be of good quality, with quality materials, heat treat must be compatible for the steel used and basically it has to be visually appealing.

Other than that I'm open to any design

I feel similar, I don't mind a good amount of blade visable when folded but I don't want the grind line showing, if its FFG its a non-issue but I don't like the Manix 2 HG or alot of the hawkbill's, they look like there's something preventing the blade from fully closing.

for me its bearings and flippers. Right now im in an obsessive phase where the knife has to have both or I wont buy it. Unless its a balisong. Then I will bend my rule due to the availability of such products. But for standard folders my only requirements are that it have those two things or I wont give it a second thought. Oh, and while I once adored assisted knives I wont even consider them now.
