Yesterday, I celebrated one year smoke free, and I was curious who else has given up cig's, or pipe's, cigar's, etc. Nicotine is hard to kick, so lets hear your stories.

Congrats! No story, but it's been 2.5 years for me. Just stopped.

My quitting story isn't too inspiring. I walked into the Navy Exchange one day to buy cigarettes and they'd gone up to fifty cents a pack. I decided that was too much, so I didn't buy any more. That was back around 1980.

I'd been on some kind of "recreational chemical" or another since high school. I went into rehab for the third time last 1998. I have been clean, except for a beer or two on a couple of occasions, since I came out in 1999. Life is so much better these days.

I quit 14 years ago. Just got tired of my life revolving around smokes. Inhaled 2 to 3 packs a day. Being a slave to cigarettes is no way to go though life.

I quit 3 months ago. It's amazing how much electronic cigarettes helped in my case. I went from spending $40 a week on cigarettes to spending $12 a week, and with every order of cartridges I took a step down in nicotine. I've been nicotine free for about a month now. If anybody is having trouble quitting, get a V2 Cig. They're an enjoyable and convenient way to get yourself off of nicotine.

Congratulations! I remember your posts when you decided to quit. Thank you for letting us know about your success. I hope that it inspires others to do the same.

Peter,

I'm glad to hear that you are nicotine free. Like Christian did, keep us updated on your progress.

I quit a few months after I got engaged, my old lady hated the smoking but put up with me anyway. I realized you just have to have a good enough motive to quit, something stronger than the addiction, and she was it. Anyway, I spent the summer working double shifts on a ferry in Alaska, smoked to my heart's content and quit the day I got back to Georgia. I'm coming up on the two year mark in August. Congrats to you man!

I'm 3 weeks into quitting with the patch...only thought about them a couple times so far. I feel sooooo much better already.

I quit a pack and a half a day habit 28 years ago. Cold turkey for me.

One of the best decisions I ever made.

I quit 2½ years ago after smoking a pack a day for 15 years. My health deteriorated rapidly towards the end and i almost ended up with asthma because of smoking.

I used nicotine patches and gum to help kick the habit and it helped. Havent smoked a single one since then. But every now and then i still feel like smoking...Especially when im just chilling with my fishing rod or after a hearty meal, but im NEVER starting again.

Good for you. Its tough. I quit tobacco when my life insurance premium was more than my business partner, who was 20 years older and actually had cancer. I had chewed and dipped for 20 years and smoked cigars all time. Never did smoke cigs.

Now, 10 years later, my health is no better, but at least I've quit. I have had a cigar at a wedding or a chew if I'm out hunting but have not fallen back into the daily (or weekly or even monthly) habit. Beer is expensive enough, having to spend $7 for a tin of Scoal every few days would be outrageous.

Hi Christian -

Congrats!

I gave it up several years ago - no special story, I just got tired of the expense to both my wallet and my health, so I stopped smoking.

best

I gave it up about 4 years ago with help of the patch. Best thing I ever did without doubt!
Also, the patch gave me some crrraaaaaazzy dreams that I will never forget!

I am entering my third week of not smoking. I have been using the e-ciggies which are MUCH better than the patch, etc. Like the previous poster said, i am down from $60 a week to around $20. MUCH better than having a hole burned into my arm because I didn't move the patch often enough. Now the good news is that my sense of smell and taste have improved. The bad news is that, because I had really bad eyesight for years before I got the surgery, the other senses seems to have compensated a bit so they were pretty darned good even when I was smoking and have become REALLY acute in the last couple of weeks. I actually ran myself out of the room with one of my own farts the other night.

It was about 1962 or so. I was 16 and in a South Alabama field picking cotton. My best buddy had stolen one of his sister's cigarettes, and he, his brother, and I were trying it. Tasted awful.

Haven't had one since.

My one year mark is in a few weeks, Aug 1st. Congrats it is very tough to quit. I am not sure is that previous guy was just a salesman, but I also used the same e-cigs for a couple months to quit. They will work if you are willing to quit.

Once again CONGRATS to all of you who quit.

I've quit smoking/dipping many times. I've experienced my current success for about the last two years. I can't have just "one". I think I'm good to go this time.
