Quitting smoking... one year later.

I quit tobacco in 1997. I'd be lying if I said it was easy, but I'm going on 15 years without smoking or dipping.

Watching my mother in law recently suffer and die from lung cancer made even more grateful that I gave it up. I go weeks without ever thinking about it now.

I smoked for 37 years. Did not do my lungs any good. Mostly cigarets, sometimes I'd light up a pipe. I was up to almost 2 packs a day in 1992 when I retired. Immediately dropped to maybe a pack a day. In 1997 I moved from NY City to New Jersey. Hardly smoked at all, switched to a couple cigars a day, didn't really like them, quit completely.

Didn't try to quit as much as I got outdoors more, got more active, got real busy buying knives ... :D

I quit lots of times but I always seem to start again. I have the best of both worlds, I smoke and chew. Here in Canada these days a pack of smokes is $14 and a can of Skoal is $22 and I go through one of each a day.....Whats that add up to.:(

My 4 pack per day father gave it up when I was 16 ,what a relief ! He had passed out one day from nicotine building up in his system so he went cold turkey !

I was a medium smoker since I was 16. I quit last year, when my wife got pregnant.

I previously tried to quit several times, but just need the right motivation. My baby girl is pretty motivating.

When I was smoking, a carton went for about $20.

I'm 35 now but when I was 16 a carton was $18 now your looking at $100+ easy and its all tax. The tobacco campaniles even tell us they charge $5 a pack the other $10 is for the government. I can also remember 8 years ago a can of chew was like $7 now its $22, once again all tax.

I am just over a year myself for cigarettes. Woke up sick one morning, you know, the average smokers chest cold...My throat hurt and I Couldn't smoke, so I was like &#@! this, why do this to yourself? Haven't had one since. For a long while, I thought about them everyday (doesn't help when everyone in the city smokes + EVERYone i work with) But I have been smoking cigars for the past two months - mostly just to "educate" myself a little bit
