Ok you all have seen stuff like this all the time, and are tired of seeing it.
now its my turn! i read that some people quench and heat treat 2 and 3 times.
would someone that has made a lot of knives out of 1095 show the process you use from start to finish , step by step for dummy's like me.thanks vern :confused:
 
vern, you really should learn to use a search. This is posted about once a week.
Any good knifemaking book also covers working with carbon steel.

Just google it and you will get tons of stuff you can print out.
 
i try but all i get is a blank page and at the bottom it say done
 
You need to search Google or Yahoo. Searching this site is useless. If you put in more than one word you will get nothing but a blank page. Absolute garbage. I can type a paragraph on my hunting forums search and get exactly what I typed.
 
your right, and i just used google and thats the way

I recall contributing a post to Dan's info page that includes a step by step on how I would heat treat 1084 if I had all my fancy tools taken away. The procedure is the same except you adjust the austenitizing temp down 10-25 degrees for 1095. There is also a thread listed with a heat treating 1095 title in the "do not read" thread at the top of the forum.

I didn't exactly jump on this this thread as it is a rather large request. A whole book could be written doing such a step by step, and editing down to a post that could be done in 10 minutes could simplify the process to the point that it could do more harm than good. Tips and pointers can be handed out readily but real knowledge takes some work to acquire properly even in these days of cyberspace. It is much easier to find a book and read it than it is to write one. I suggest a borrowed copy of the "Heat Treaters Guide" as an excellent starting point.
