"So this guy on the street walks up to me and says 'I have'nt had A bite in three whole days!' Well, I knew what he meant, but just to be funny I took A big bite out of his jugular vein. He was bleeding and screaming and rolling around, and I said hey man! Don't you get it? He just kept bleeding and screaming and rolling.....I guess some people just don't see the humor.." Wierd Al

"I measure once and cut once." - Quote from a carpenter, just before he cut the wrong size hole in the side of my house for the new door. Needless to say, I was not pleased.

I don't have the exact quote. But if I remember correctly, Steinbeck writes in the first chapter of "Travels With Charley" about never having a pocketknife when you need one. A great read by the way.

I have always liked James Mattis' old sig line:

"The pen is mightier than the sword, but not in the dark."

"The pointy end goes into the other man."

Antonio Banderas as Alejandro Murrieta/Zorro
The Mask of Zorro (1998)

Timothy Dalton as James Bond
License to Kill (1989)

"Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're all barbarians!"

Katherine Hepburn as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine
The Lion in Winter (1968)

"Do you... enjoy... knives?"

Please do not include this quote since I hate it so much because it shows apathy toward preparedness:

"The best survival knife is the one you have with you at the time!"
-- a guy with only a SAK Classic in his pocket.

Bruce Woodbury

Here's three quotes from the Bible (New American Standard), as requested:

"When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is put before you; and put a KNIFE to your throat if you are a man of great appetite." Proverbs 23:1-2.

"So Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the EDGE of the SWORD." Exodus 17:13.

"Show yourself SHARP, go to the right; set yourself, go to the left, wherever your EDGE is appointed." Ezekiel 21:16.

So, I guess this covers knives, swords, edges, keeping sharp, right-handed and left-handed, suicide, war and defensive/tactical knife fighting. As PC as possible for the knife crowd.

And one of my personal favorites:

"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12.

"The hardest knife ill-used doth lose his edge."
- Shakespeare, Sonnet 95

Is this a dagger which I see before me,
The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee. (2.1.34)
I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible
To feeling as to sight? or art thou but
A dagger of the mind, a false creation,
Proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?
I see thee yet, in form as palpable
As this which now I draw.
Thou marshall'st me the way that I was going;
And such an instrument I was to use.
Mine eyes are made the fools o' the other senses,
Or else worth all the rest; I see thee still, (2.1.45)
And on thy blade and dudgeon gouts of blood,
Which was not so before. There's no such thing: (2.1.47)
It is the bloody business which informs
Thus to mine eyes. Now o'er the one half-world (2.1.49)
Nature seems dead, and wicked dreams abuse
The curtain'd sleep; witchcraft celebrates (2.1.51)
Pale Hecate's offerings; and wither'd Murder,
Alarum'd by his sentinel, the wolf,
Whose howl's his watch, thus with his stealthy pace,
With Tarquin's ravishing strides, towards his design
Moves like a ghost. Thou sure and firm-set earth,
Hear not my steps, which way they walk, for fear
Thy very stones prate of my whereabout,
And take the present horror from the time,
Which now suits with it. Whiles I threat, he lives: (2.1.60)
Words to the heat of deeds too cold breath gives. (2.1.61)

A bell rings

I go, and it is done; the bell invites me.
Hear it not, Duncan; for it is a knell
That summons thee to heaven or to hell. (2.1.64)

And another one, sort of knife-related:

It is I who created the smith
To fan the charcoal fire
And produce the tools for his work
So it is I who create
the instruments of havoc.
No weapon formed against you
Shall succeed,
And every tongue that contends with you at law
You shall defeat.
Such is the lot of the servants of the Lord,
Such their triumph through Me
declares the Lord.

Isaiah 54:16-17

It is not the fall that kills you. It is the realization that "yes, you did something that stupid."

Not many people know that the song quoted from below is about knives and knife fighting:

You gotta know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
Know when to run

And someone on the forums said something like this:

"When you enter into a fight, you are throwing dice. When you enter into a fight with your knife, you are throwing loaded dice."

"Paradise lies in the shadow of swords" - Nietzsche
