Well, R.I.P. to my Benchmade folder. I've had it for 5 years and now.........lost the clip. I noticed the clip was getting loose, so I tightened it down several times, then realized that it wasn't the screws getting loose. It was the inserts.
I should have super glued them before it was too late.

But alas, the clip came off when I was out and about and lo and behold, clip, inserts, screws and all were lost.

Benchmade no longer makes the inserts for that knife, but they did send me a new clip. Now this clip mounts on the opposite side obviously, and it is now the wrong side. Akward to pull out and open.

R.I.P. Benchmade. Now will have to buy a new something or other.

What model is it? If it's the inner threads that have stripped out, you could try using screws that are a little bigger. You can tap the liners for the next larger size screw, and install the clip that way.

Surely you can call them up and see if they can repair it for you.

You're retiring it because the clip broke? Why not put it in a belt sheath or carry it in your pocket?

Why do you retire this knife? If you like it a lot try to repair it, if not possible search for the same model on the internet, local shops or elsewhere.

Good luck.

I bet if you sent it off to Benchmade they would fix it for you. I would probably even pay them to fix it if I liked the knife enough.

:)

I really don't want to retire it. I could carry it in my pocket, but I carry it for protection and having to fumble for it in my pocket doesn't seem efficient to me.

I think it's call the Bali Song. Blade is perfect since I only cut flesh with it. :)

The problem is that the inserts came out with the clip. There is nothing to insert larger screws into. Benchmade says they don't mfg. this knife anymore, hence there are no inserts of this type. Not sure how you'd put new inserts into the holes anyway.

It is a perplexing problem. :grumpy:

I thought BM had a lifetime warranty. That sounds like it should be covered to me.

correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a less expensive Benchmade with a one-piece molded Zytel handle? If you cannot take left and right sides apart, I can't help with repair ideas, aside from perhaps cutting appropriately thick sections of a splined shaft, pressing them into place with epoxy, and then drilling/tapping new screw holes into the pieces of metal you just inserted into the handle....I have an early AFCK (what? 10yrs old now?) where the screws thread through G10 and into the titanium liners, and the knife continues to be a constant companion, and has impressed the heck out me....but metal bushings in a plastic handle would only be a problem waiting to happen, and they probably don't do those anymore for the reasons you have discovered....in my opinion, they should honor the guarantee, if by no other means than by giving you a new and better knife...I would like to hear what they do for you....

mtgunr,
their only offer was to send a new clip and screws, which attach to the opposite end. this is backward for me and it takes me a while to get the knife out and turned around to open.

they made no other offer unfortunately.

They put the bloddy clip on the hinge end for the bloddy reason it might come open if the spring gets weak...you might point that out to them and tell them you want a REAL fix before you get their knife all bloddy (and yes, I know how to spell and am going for effect)....the handle is one-piece, I take it?...

hey mtngunr,
yes the handle is one piece. they sent the replacement clip out right away. i had contacted their customer service by email.

after making this post, and after reading your comments, i went to their website to look at their warranty. i couldn't find one. not saying it's not there, but i couldn't find it.

if they don't have a published one, that's curious to me.

gosh...

the knife works...

it looks like you stuck it where the sun doesnt shine for 4 years,,beat the hell out of it, and now you are upset...

wow,,the knife still works...clips aren't part of the lifetime deal...it was an inexpensive knife you beat the hell out of that still works...throw it in the fishing tackle box or something...

so you don't like the screw on the wrong side...oh well, buy a new knife,,,you got your moneys worth,,,

your killing me,,,:barf:

this knife rocks in the fact it still works as a knife...

pocket clips are a relatively new things and not needed...and if that knife is your self defense knife, i feel for you,,, :)

not trying to be mean, but come on, Benchmade had done their service to you, you should reward them by buying one of their good knives...

Benchmade homepage, says "online warranty registration" right there...when you click on it, it takes you to http://www.benchmade.com/about_knives/warranty.asp
notice, no expiration, but I hope you have your receipt, and they DO offer replacement (their option), and that would be the time to argue the safety aspect of the clip location....this happened to me, but feel free to claim it as your own...I called about my AFCK, as the clip is actually at the wrong end (the hinge) for fastest deployment, but was told by their own rep that having the clip at the other end was asking for trouble if the blade fell open...
