R.I.P. Benchmade

gosh...

the knife works...

it looks like you stuck it where the sun doesnt shine for 4 years,,beat the hell out of it, and now you are upset...

wow,,the knife still works...clips aren't part of the lifetime deal...it was an inexpensive knife you beat the hell out of that still works...throw it in the fishing tackle box or something...

so you don't like the screw on the wrong side...oh well, buy a new knife,,,you got your moneys worth,,,

your killing me,,,:barf:

this knife rocks in the fact it still works as a knife...

pocket clips are a relatively new things and not needed...and if that knife is your self defense knife, i feel for you,,, :)

not trying to be mean, but come on, Benchmade had done their service to you, you should reward them by buying one of their good knives...

The clip IS part of the knife, and what makes it so accessible for any purpose...buried in the pocket is SLOW...it is a defect in material AND workmanship that those inserts came out, as they are not subject to any force or wear, save tension, and screws are not supposed to come out by the roots...if your root canals did that, you would be PO'ed at the dentist, I bet, and many folk can't afford to replace knives that fall apart, especially knives with the reputation Benchmade says they deserve...why don't YOU buy him a better knife instead of *barf* snide useless commentary?...

tinmayer,
you're a goober. i'm not upset. i could care damn less. i can buy 3000 of these knives right this moment and not miss a beat. this is a discussion. i like the knife or i wouldn't be having this discussion. the knife, for all practical purposes, works fine. it ain't been in the frikkin dark for 4 years and it ain't been beaten to death. the clip came off.

nobody's trying to make a federal case out of this except you, you goof! As a matter of fact, i consider this knife to be a quality knife. just the clip setup is inferior.

thanks mtngunr. unfortunately i have no receipt where i originally purchased this knife, so it's all probably a moot point.

You'd be suprised how many sellers might make you up a receipt when you explain the situation...heck, just buy a receipt book and make you one...send them the carbon...looks more realistic....lots of dealers at shows use those cheapie books....

If BM won't repair it, and you want to keep it, take it to a machine shop and see if they can do something.

If you asked them to send you parts to fix it yourself, that's something they won't do. Take a trip down to the post office and mail it in to them. You should not need a receipt for it. I have sent a few knives in for vey basic stuff and have never sent a receipt with any of them.

You may be quite surprised at what they can do once they have it there.

no big deal, but no need to call names,I am definately not a goober,,,and I didn't call you anything... i stated my opinion, you stated yours...

i think it is lame when people complain about old knives breaking,,,obviously this was a good knife that still works..if this is not the case, cool, i understand....its covered so send it in, end of story..the knife works fine, so if they replace it or fix it, then i think you are very lucky as it obviously was a good knife...and still is...and benchmade is going above and beyond most companies...

if I offended then I apologize,,,

as for the fake receipt stuff,,,i don't think thats great advice either, but hey,,if it works..more power..

I have to side with timjmayer on this one. I think you got your money out of that knife. It is time to reward Benchmade and yourself with a nice new knife. They make a lot of them you know? I am sure one of them will be a good fit for you.

You can only expect so much for so long out of any mechanical device. At some point, you decide it served you well and you fork over the dough for a new and better model. Many of us have dozens of folders anyway and we can't imagine not having a knife to the job. Check out the for sale/trade forums and I bet you wil find something that interests you in a short while.

When you say it mounts on the opposite side, do you mean it would work as a left handed knife to carry in your left pocket? If so, you could do that and get another knife for your right pocket so you'll have a knife for each hand.

There are just two possibilities.

1. You send it in and get an new one (i guess it will be one of the new red line)

2. You keep it as it is and search for another solution.

BM warrants the whole knife but reserves the right to decide wether to repair or replace the knife.

If you, besides the warranty demands something they can´t deliver, that has nothing to do with the warranty and think twice, why should other manufacturers do different in the same situation?

Do you think Kershaw, Spyderco or whever keeps those parts over years?

I think 99% of all users would be glad if they get a new knife instead of the old one without any question.

Second thought: Every year, BM steps further in quality, so the younger knife is the better in general without looking at the special one (exeptions not excluded). So i would give it to them and see what happens.

Hope, this topic will end with any kind of action you decide to do and not like other topics of that kind, where a hurt customers heart never stops bleeding.

Not to offend you, but i am tired of topics that start with an attac´, lead to some nice recommendations, some critics, an excuse like "i just wanted to discuss.." and than nothing.

Please be the first one who reports which way you have chosen and how the story has ended.

Behold and alas, my Benchmade worries are behind me. As I searched under my car seat this morning, voila!! There was my erstwhile clip with screws and inserts still attached.

Upon arriving at my home tonight, I made a bee line straight to the J.B. Weld. This time tomorrow night, C4 explosives will not be able to dislodge the clip from its mooring.

Thanks to one and all for your prayers and continued support during this sensitive and trying time in my life.

I will have fond memories of how all of you stood by me in my darkest hour. That is except for tinmayer.

Shivster :p

glad you found it, and by the way I apologized...

no need to have a grudge,,,I said I wasn't trying to offend you and sorry....

you don't accept an apology?

But of course Mr. Mayer, I certainly do accept your apology. No harm done and you're quite the person for apologizing.
