R.I.P. President Gerald Ford.

I just read some nice comments Chevy Chase made about Pres. Ford. Apparently, they became friends after Chevy left SNL, and stayed in touch over the years. Took me back to my college days, watching SNL, staying up all night, drinking, even studying occasionally. Those Ford years, although brief, were innocent, carefree times for me. His passing prompted a few moments of nostalgia. Sometimes I miss the seventies; things seemed a lot simpler then.

The seventies probably seemed a lot simpler to people who weren't trying to make a living or recover from a war or just get on with life with a political system that looked like it was crumbling out from under us.

I think President Ford set a pretty good example of grace under pressure. But the times were very hard and very frightening for those of us who knew what was going wrong, and they got worse after he left office.

Glad to hear that. Based on what I could interpret from his interviews, speeches, etc., Gerald Ford seemed to me to be a decent, honest man. That's the highest praise I believe anyone could ask for. Rest in peace, Mister President.

Although not really important in the greater scheme of things, I find it ironic that he was known for being a clutz when he was actually the most accomplished athlete of any President. Two way center for his college football team, later football and boxing coach at Yale. Could have played in the fledgling professional football league, but decided to coach at Yale in hopes of going to law school there.

He was certainly elected, and re-elected, to the House. That does not guarantee decency or honesty.
