R.I.P. To an old friend

Im sorry to hear that. that sounds like a really good dog and a great friend. My prayers are with you.

Sorry for your loss, a dog is a good friend and good friends should never suffer, you did what was right.

my condolences, so sorry to hear about chewy. i lost my greyhound, blue, at 10yrs. old, from cancer in september. i am glad you had another 8 years with yours. remember the good times.

Thanks, guys.

It's been a real help to still have Chopper around (the mutt in my sig pic). He's 10, and from past experience with big dogs, he's probably got 4-6 years left in him (one reason I like mutts, they tend to be much stronger and healthier than pruebreeds).

With Chewy, I can't say I have any regrets. I spent a lot of time with her. Up until the last couple of years, she'd go hiking and camping with me and Chopper. last couple of years she just didn't have the legs for it anymore. But we still played a lot and she was spoiled rotten.

On Saturday, I made the most of it. Like all dogs, she always loves going for rides. So on the way to the vet, I opened my window, and held her in my arms. She just rested her head on my shoulder and sniffed out the window (covering the side of my car with dog snot!).

She really was ready to go, so it was the right thing to do. She went peacefully, thank God.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I know how important our pets (family actually) are to us (more of a cat person myself...), and how torn up I was when I had to have my cat put down. She'd been with me through 19 years, 8 moves, a wife, and two girlfriends. Just remember all the times, and yeah, running around having a good time.

RIP Chewy. Damn, it is sad when they have go. She lived well and was lucky to have done it with you. Condolences to you and Chopper....

Be at peace Chewy Tabacca. And you too Cpl., as you knew that her time had come and what you had done was in her best interests.

I've had to undertake the onerous task of having a beloved canine companion euthanised three times, my Dobermann in 1998, my Dalmation/Australian Blue Heeler in 2004 and Becky the Border Collie in 2008. I pray that I die before my Ridgeback so as not to have to go though it again.

I first read this quote here on BF several years ago, and it has never lost its edge:

"Until one has loved an animal,
part of their soul remains unawakened."

Regards,

bruce

Sorry for your loss, you gave Chewy a good life and she gave you a good life during the time you were together. That's what makes having them so great.

Yeah, well, Cpl, you know how I feel. :)

Lucky to have been a part of his life, eh?

I get more attached to my dogs than I do to most people. Hang onto the good memories...
