going up to Weirton WV to have Mr. Wilson show me how to make my own blades and how to hollow grind. Can't wait been waiting for months.
My question is, What questions would you ask him? I've got a BIG list, but thought maybe there might be something I'm not thinking of. Some thing you guys might wish you knew when you first started grinding? Right now I buy all my blades and I'm getting ready to get a small biz loan to get some equip. to start grinding away.

The first question should be:
"How long did it take you to get proficient at making knives?"
Since you are getting a business loan, I assume you are going to try and make and sell knives. It takes a while to get proficient at it, so don't expect to be on the cover of Blade and Fortune 500 next month.

Second question:
"How do you grind your bevels?"
This is the hardest part to learn.

Third question:
"I want to learn about Heat Treatment, so I can make a quality blade."

Last question:
"Teach me how to polish and finish a knife."
The most noticeable thing about a makers level of skill is in his finishing ability.

Thanks Stacy! I appriciate it. Right now I buy all my blades and add my own things like file work, pins and alot of different kinds of scales. I've just got a chance to put alittle something into this. My Dad has built custom muzzleloaders for 35yrs now, and he just retired after 37yrs at the local Chem.Plant. Now I've got the oppertunity to soak up his knowledge, and surprise him with a few new toys to add to his shop! Hopefully one day I'll expand to building them myself.
Polinsh and finish thats one of the first on my list. What steels are best for different uses is another.
