Hey Survival Guys an' Gals,

-_- I hate rabbits. The little devils ate my blueberries. My ding-a-ling helper forgot to tie plastic bags to a pole beside each one. The little suckers ate the leaves!! (The bags have long worked to keep rabbits out of my garden.) Ugh.. Nasty little vermin. :-) Heh. That's ok. What's a good bait to work with the "Have-a-heart" traps? I'll get those little suckers.. Trapping them shouldn't be too hard. Question is:Do I kill the rabbits or relocate them? Personally, I'd rather flour and fry them, myself.

I tried using my dog to keep the rabbits at bay. But then I found out that Beagles love blueberries ...

Beagles like blueberries? Really? Weird lol. Apples..peanut butter..hmmm...I'll try both. Maybe even throw some lettuce in there. I've got some blackberries and blueberries in the freezer from the harvest last year, some rendered down berries will taste great with some hot buttermilk bisquits, along with some crispy crunchy fried rabbit.

As others have said, apples work well. Used to use them as bait in my box traps.

As a teenager I had several box traps that provided a lot of fresh rabbit that my family preferred over squirrel and other small game. The most reliable baits were apples, carrots, and onions. I tried peanut butter and it worked but also attracted skunk and possum more so than the veggies did.

Is there a mammal alive that can resist peanut butter?

Possums. At least the local ones show no interest in it. But they went crazy for kibble cat food! They were almost fighting each other to be the first to get into the trap to get to it.

To get back on topic ... They've already shown an affinity for your blueberries, why not use some of them?

I just hope they don't smell my blueberry handsoap and think I'm a big walking talking blueberry...they might try and eat ME!! Hehehe. That'd actually be kind of funny.

Leaded or unleaded, offer the rabbits both choices by setting up snares inside the garden in addition to the lead spitter.

When you catch a doe with blueberries or whatever, just keep her healthy in one of the larger traps. You'll catch all the males and have a steady supply of stew meat :D

I'm only half-kidding...

My Grandfather, when he was alive would trap Rabbits with a Basher Box trap, it is a live catch trap so you could move them to another location if you want, he would break their necks and cook them.

Almost caught one of the little monsters by the leg (stalked him), I ended up diving too soon and missed. Setting live-catch traps out. Oh, I'd use blueberries but the little sh@#s destroyed them all.. Ugh. I'll have them before long. :-)
