Rabies Question?

 Yep Yvsa it looked me in the eye as I took it from the dogs mouth & then slowly bit its long yellow teeth into my thumb till it reached the bone on both sides, then it bit harder till the bone ached, It then slowly shook its head like a puppy pitbull, It only let go when I squeezeed so hard its head so changed shape & made a popping sound, that took about a minute, I could then pull its buttom jaw teeth out from one side & lift the top half out. It was only the bone & 2 thin strips of flesh holding my thumb together at that point.

Life is a learning expierience. ;) :D

Or we could talk about how much fun one can have saving a skunk trapped under the edge of a chainlink fence. :o

:D

not sure Terry, I just dropped it I think, when its head changed shape, it went very still, if my friends Russel picked it up again I didnt notice. :o :D

Well at this point you were no doubt worried more about your thumb than anything else and I bet you had a few choice words for the powers that be hunh? ;)
Anyway it would have been fitting to take the little scooter home for the pot methinks. Eating it would have just added a touch of finesse ainnit.:D

Tom our very first Dachshund Fritz had a thing about skunks.
Fritz and I and a few boys about a half mile north of us killed one in the marsh behind our house when I was about 7 years old and we lived in Montana. It didn't do any good to shoot the thing with my Red Ryder BB Gun so I wound up beating it with the stock.
Way back then they were wood and the stock still stank of skunk 2 - 3 years later in the hot Florida sun.:barf:

I think i felt rather stupid & was probably cursing myself Yvsa, my only expirence before that of Squirrels was some semi pet ones at a hotel.

Glad we dont have skunks here! never eaten squirral... yet!

You're missing a treat! Squirrel meat lightly browned in a cast iron skillet, then make a rich brown gravy....pour it over homeade bisquits (soft kind) and serve hot....Yummy Real hillbilly fare!

since you didn't say 'never eaten skunk' what did you think of it? they tend to be a bit gamey and takes a lot of cleaning, especially if you get them flat from the highway....kinda an aquired taste

hint - be REEL carefull skinnin around them anal glands..........

since y'all don't have skunks there, musta been an imported high class one from yer butchers....

p.s. - as above, i can testify that squirrel IS nice pan fried, even makes good gravy. i let the dogs have the nuts tho - i'd think in proportion to body weight a squirrels nuts gotta be the world record.....

THe rabies pandemic has just increased by 10% in the Maryland/Virginia area according to a news item this morning. LOVERLY!

Incubation 2weeks - 3years. The BBC has a full run down on the disease. It is a very nasty viral encaephalitis. If, extremely rare, you survive you may just qualify to be a politician, nasty.

Rule of thumb if you touch a sick bat or get scratched by an unknown animal go for preventative treatment. We had a placid mutt pitch at our school in Marondellas and a master's wife noted it was not 100% and took it to SPCA.

It was rabid and many had to be treated.

Innoculatian is just one jab a week for 3 weeks, cost me about $160 if you deal with wild animals seems worth it to me.
