Good luck Andy! What fun would it be if a guy couldn't howl at the moon now and again?! :D Just watch out for the snakes, although I'm sure you're well prepared for that.
 
Snakes don't bother me too much, something about a Cobra that makes you take notice (just because they look the business)... :)

New camera has a very steep learning curve attached !!!!!!!!

This ^^! Don't know if I'll ever be able get one of these trips in to Africa, but sure appreciate being able to live it vicariously through the pictures!!

What kind of flight time are we talking from Australia to Africa?
 
Yes, this weekend is as "camera dedicated" as I can make it ... ;)

14hrs Sydney to JoBurg. Same as Sydney to LA...I hate flying (not a scared flyer, just the whole one spot for that amount of time in a dodgey seat etc).
 
Check out Tony Northrup's YouTube page, lots of great DSLR informational videos, learned a lot from him and my pictures are way better from using his suggestions.

That's actually a pretty cool picture, the biggest thing is don't be afraid to take a ton of pictures and cherry pick the ones you like. Did you try shooting some perspective shots with a wide open aperture (F-stop 1.3-3.5 depending on lens) so that you get a little background blur? I think that would be neat with that setup.
 
Yeah mate, I am a firm believer in taking LOTS of pics in the vague hope I snap a decent one. Yesterday was (in all truth) more about me getting a handle on how things work (and work in conjunction with each other) with the new body than it was about the pics. Some more reading last night (I bought Klostermann's book and have been working through it for a couple of days) and I did have a few "lightbulb moments".
