Those little guys are cute! But when they get bigger they can be a real nuicanse, in my area they get in trash cans etc. But they are cute none the less! Thanks for your pics I really enjoy all your outings!

These are great.

Too bad that these little guys can cause so much trouble when they are bigger.

I have a friend who live traps coons on the hill behind his house in a nice little section of woods and he gets one every time he sets the trap 60 so far since spring. Afriend of his takes them to the deep wood on a creek and turns them loose, they do get into everything thats for sure.

I don't know about WV, but here in Indiana it's illegal to transport wild animals anywhere for any reason. You're "supposed to" get permission to trap them and then call animal control to deal with them.

What's funny, is that it IS perfectly legal to shoot them if they're causing a nuisance... You're supposed to report it, but my DNR buddies would rather not know about it, saves on the paperwork. :)

It does seem like it doesn't make sense but here in the south we have a problem with people trapping feral hogs and transporting them to areas that don't have any. They mainly do it to stock their hunting areas but the hogs wreak havok on the loacal flora, fauna and agriculture. As bad is raccoons carry Parvo and Rabies I can see how DNR would not want possibly sick coons transported to areas with healthy ones and vice versa. Chris

Too bad they aren't as cute when all you see is their @$$ sticking out of the garbage can ! Great shots, thanks.

Shoot them! don't let the cuteness trick you.

My last dog (1984 - 1999 R.I.P.) would go psychotic at the sight or even smell of a raccoon.

All the raccoons in these parts today considered him a serial killer and mention his name in hushed tones.

can see where DNR would want the rabid animals in town sol they wouldn't have far to drive for the complaint, Maybe if they don't know about things they will go away and it will cut down on taxes.

That is exactly what we need, DNR to go away to cut down on taxes. We can regulate ourselves, just like we regulated game at the turn of the century.:barf:

Nice shots for sure. Cute lil' devils aren't they? When we lived out in the valley, several would come around the apts we lived in, because people left food out for their cats etc. and our stupid cat Moe would hang out with them just outside our door. Usually younger ones, but once in awhile a full grown coon would be sitting right next to him looking at me, looking at them. Never did get a photo, but was sure surprised Moe wasn't on the menu. Seen 2 grown coons tear a cat to pieces on the roof of a neighbors home. Wasn't pretty!

Scary thought.

Of course humans in general are known for their self control, consideration of others, society and the stewardship of their environment. I say give a few people a gun, a rule book and an authority complex to help us tame our natural instincts :p

Oh and like others my bad experiences with racoons far outnumber my good ones. However the skunk tends to be a high priority pest around these parts. List:

1) skunk
2) racoon
3) opossum
4) cottontail rabbit
5) deer - but I like them anyhow
6) squirrel (red squirrel way up there though for wood chewing characteristics)

I am a coon hunter and have been for almost 30 years, I love raccoons, I realize that most people view them as a pest which I don't understand. If a coon is being a pest around my place he usually ends up on the supper table. I like mine baked with sweet taters or BBQed with crushed red pepper and vinegar sauce. I sold almost 500 dollars of fur my senior year in high school most were coon, I wish those fur prices would come back. So what is so bad about coons?

This one was getting into the garbage at work, I played a little joke on him and released him in my favorite hunting area, 2 1/2 months to go and he won't be so lucky.:D

You may be liking them less down the road as the incidence of Lyme Disease increases.

Doc

And lets not forget the ever present Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). It is on the increase I would assume, as it can't be stopped by anything short of the Earth vaporizing.:(

Despite the trouble they can cause, they're cute little critters. Are those porcupine quills I see sticking in one coon's face?

Ahh, they sure were cute back when they commanded $40 a piece at the local fur buyer. Only half as cute now.
